midi- default pad assign

I'm triggering a sound module (Stylus RMX) with my mpc. Is there a way to re-assign the mpc pads to different midi notes? Specifically, the hand clap (D#1 on GM2) is on bank B pad 16. Can I move that "note" to bank A?
When I attempt to change the assignment on the "midi page" of the mpc, nothing seems to happen. I can't seem to change the default assignment.
any ideas?

thanks for the reply. I had intuitively done these steps wth no luck...
BUT after re-reading p. 78 a few times, I realized that I needed to create a NEW program in order to reassign midi notes.
I'm finding the learning curve on the mpc to be a bit tough...but I'm getting there!
