Okay. I just picked up a Sandisk 256MB CompactFlash (SDCFB-256-758) and I am very unhappy with it. My MPC freezes every time it tries to access the card at all. I should have read the posts in the forum before I made the purchase.. luckily, I should be able to get a refund tho..

I'm looking to try another one made by Lexar Media CF cards of the following model no.
CF256-40-380
CF512-40-380

Has any of you tried the above model?

better yet, Can some of you please list the model number/brand of the CF cards that you are using with your MPC?? (as well as the models that failed)

It would be greatly helpful for others!! save time and $$$
Thanks in advance.

I've heard from other people in this forum that Fuji CF Cards work great. There has been lots of other people complaining about their Sandisk cards also. I assume that the card that came with your mpc 1000 works?

I've yet to go pick up my first smart media card, but I know that on the akai usa sight they've added a section on the 1000 page of what cards they've tested and work. Good luck.

Whenever my MPC freezes while I am loading or saving to the compact flash card, I just take out the compact flash for about 5 seconds then place it back in. This seems to unfreeze the MPC, and then I repeat what I was doing (i.e. either saving or loading.) I do this everytime and I have not lost any of my work yet. Please keep in mind it works for me and may not work for everyone.

Holla back and tell US if this method works for you.

FYI ----> I'm using a 256 Sandisk card. I am pretty happy with it, but I read that some people think it sucks, well to each his own... BEEEEYATCH.

hey- I have a SanDisk 256mb Ultra II CF card. Works great. No clue as to why yours wouldn't. Maybe its just a defective card? Anyways, good luck finding a new one

Could you point out that hyperlink for me? I couldn't find it anywhere on AKAI's website. Thanks.

Anyone have any experience with this CF card? They seem to be about $160 for a 1GB card... seems like a perfect fit for the MPC and they are a recommended drive on the Akai site.

have heard bad things about the Microdrives failing. plus, I am distrustful of IBMs wuality control based on experience with IDE drives... ymmv...

I shopped and shopped for type II CF cards, but steering clear of IBM uDrives and SanDisk, there ain't alot of options... however, for those looking for low risk and price-to-performance ratio, I bought a generic 160Mb CF card off eBay which works great. Total cost: $26 (including shipping!)

I will wait for the price point of the bigger CF cards to come down, or Type II to become more common before I throw hundreds of bucks at one...
