Is the mpc2kxl right for me?

I am very interested in the mpc 2000xl. I am just curious about a couple things.


-What else do I "need" to get going. I have drums,guitar,bass, and a bunch of precussion, but no synths. or keboards. It seems to me like these would be a crucial element. Basically, I am wondering if this will really work as a "stand alone" piece of equiptment.
-How much money will I drop on software, and accesories after I get this thing. I realize that the answer to this is pretty open, but I am looking for an average.
-Is $700 a good price for a used 2000xl?
-Can I somehow link the mpc to a digital 8-track (Fostex VF80)?
-If you transfer something from mp3 to wav., and then try to use it, will it sound awful? Can you do this at all?
-What else will I need to create a finished product? Mastered and mixed. Does the mpc2kxl do any of this?

Yes it works great as a stand alone machine.

Will you be sampled based or composing? That will determine if you need a bunch of snyths in your setup or not.

Software wise depends on if you buy the actual software or get a pirated copy and it also depends on the software you go for.

You can get Adobe Audition 1.5 for free which is a great recording software until you can get either Cubase, Protools,ect. (preference)

$700 is a good price for an XL just as long as it is working condition and it maxed out at least.

Yes you can use a MPC with a trackrecorder. If you are goin to use a track recorder then you dont need expensive recording software. But if you are wanting software for chopping samples and stuff do a search for Audacity.

You can transfer something from mp3 to .wav but the quality will be like wont be that good. Its better to work with .wavs instead of mp3's in my opinion but thats a preference thing.

Mixing is something you will have to learn. Read the guide below it should take care of everything.

Also use the search function for referrence also.

I was thinking about getting Kore, because I can pirate me the Komplete program.

The only problem with those, is that I would probably need to get a new computer just to run them. My computer right now is ghettro, that is kinda why I am leaning towards the MPC.

Free as in bootleg - or free as in free release.

Sorry, and sorry. This was my first post. I had read some others before posting. I did not notice the p word, but I did notice that mnh2410 had mentioned it in the post previous to mine....

Sorry for calling you out 2410, it is not my intention to be a tattle.

Its perfectly fine b/c i was not promoting bootlegging I was just speaking in general to help you tally up your total purchase. I cant assume you buy the real software nor can I assume you buy a bootleg. So i put both in allowing your to depict the truth to get a round base of your total amount needed for a production studio.

I made bangers for 2 years with nothing but my MPC, turntable(with mixer) and $0.50 bin vinyl. Everything else is nice to have, but not nesessary to make beats with, that's for sure.
