MP3's to MPC1000

Hi, I'm somewhat new to this. I was reading the 1000 to 2000xl comparison chart and it said the USB connection just turns your MPC into a very expensive memory card reader.

My question is, can i drag mp3's or wav's directly into the MPC from my computer?

I know MP3's don't have the best sound quality but will it at least sound acceptable? For instance, would i be able to do what a producer does with an mpc & a turntable, with an mpc and a computer with mp3's?

No you need to turn them to WAVs first.

If you haven't got it already, google for a program called Audacity. it's free and will do what you need and more

Thanks man. I'm on it. So I just change mp3 files to wav's and i can edit it with the MPC? Also, is Audacity like CoolEdit? If so, do you prefer one to another? Thanks

And the Batch Processing in the latest version allows you to convert a whole folder full of files to WAV (stereo or mono) in one go.

I'm glad they've included batch convert in the new one. i'll downloaded it later.

By the way you can use mp3's with your 1k but u will have to record them in as if you were sampling. Take the OUTS on your soundcard to the Record IN on your mpc. Play the file and sample it into the mpc.

I have an MBox too. Can I hook that up to the MPC and sample mp3's that way? Thanks again

Take the Mbox OUTS to the RECORD IN on your MPC and sample away.

Is that a difference b/w the 1K & the 2000XL? The ability to directly drag files from the computer to the 1K? Would you be able to do that with a 2000XL? Thanks in advance!!

You cant drag sounds from an computer over to the XL like u can on the 1k. You would have to have a zip drive, media card, ect or whatever u have installed in the XL to transfer sounds back and forth. The 1k has a USB port for doin transfers.

MPC1000, MPC2500, and MPC4000 are the only ones that have USB.

p.s. The blue mpc2000xl doesnt have USB either.
