it seems as though my mpc 2000 won't receive midi messages unless it's the first link from any midi "master". in other words, if i use my motif midi'ed directly into the mpc to trigger samples, it's fine; however, if i use my computer (as i'm trying to do now) to trigger both the sounds from computer to the motif in THRU to the mpc, the mpc won't trigger. the midi thru (soft?) is "on" but unless i go from the computer out INTO the mpc, the sounds in the mpc won't trigger. i'd like to use it the other way around, since there may be other sounds i'd like to record into the computer triggered via keyboard.
