Excellent point man and so true it's almost terrifying. Acutally, here's a twist: my man from the Chi catches the ear of Havoc of Mobb Deep about some tracks. Hav buys the track from dude for $5000. About 6 months later, Hav turned around and re-sold the track to the GAME for $15,000...the very same "Havoc" track in The Documentary.

His whole situation was messed up because he was managed by John Monopoly who had something going with Jive/ Violator (who also managed Mobb Deep) Conflict of interest but when you trying to get on, you dont think about all the down sides.

You right. You're just so focused on getting on that you may catch some bad luck. You just gotta keep grindin. That track is one of my favorites on the album along with "Dreams" and "Church for thugs"

Some artists have bigger budgets to deal with. The same track you sell to a "net-cee" for $50.00 could possibly be sold to an established artist for upwards of $50,000.

Every Netcee I met so far seems to be mo' broke than the last one, all wantin beats for free!!!
I'm like: who's gonna pay for all my studio 'ishhh if I'm givin beats away for free foo', and i aint even mentioned the amount of hours, hard work & treez that go into makin that beat

I can see now that some kats seem to be making a good livin' out of selling beats to established rappers due to their high budgets and tbh that's the best way even though competition is harder.

Dude that made the beat on the documentary is "SC'. He mentioned on hiphopgame.com making a beat on the documentary and not getting credit but he never said who but it's havoc. If you check out the hot trax dvd part 2 it shows SC and havoc in the studio together.

I've been in a similar situation. I did a track (Realidad) for this one cat (Juan Gotti) from Houston (Dopehouse Records) and it landed on his CD (John Ghetto). The CD gets nominated for a grammy and I never knew it was on the album cuz I didn't hear it 'til my cousin said "this is a tight track". I took a listen, heard it was my beat, called his label... They mail me a check and promise to correct the credits. I still havent seen the correction. What do you guys think I should do? I would have rather have had the credits to be honest. Oh, but I usually go from 150 to 700 on the beats. I haven't used any recognizable samples so theres nothing to clear and they get it outright. And unless they are a big artist, that will probably be the highest I charge. I was gonna hook Baby Bash up for 500 knowing I could have hit him for more but it didn't happen. Oh Well!

Get a lawyer to send em a nice letter to correct the credits, most of the times that will already settle it.

When I started out sellin beats I charged like $20-30 if I didn't give em out for free
But as you start buildin shit people expect to pay more so I just can't let them down haha
This time around, I charge from $80-150 and I'm tryin to expand
But really who gives a damn about cash, I'll keep doin this shit even when aliens come down and incinerate all our currency
That'll be the day
And as far as sample clearance, just put somewhere in the contract that they gotta take care of that
Or else karma will only come around harder
