2000 questions

I used to own a 2000xl, but Im a idiot and sold it. I just found a 2000 for super cheap and picked it up. I have a few questions:

This thing has no flash rom. How much is the upgrade is it even worth it?

I havent hook up a scsi zip yet, but I was told you have no file management either. So whats the point of having a zip? Seems as tho using floppies would keep me more organized.

Is there any other pros or cons to this machine?

there is no pros that i can find comparing the classic to the xl. the classic does not have a timestreching technique, the beat chopping method is a bit time consuming, but not that much.
the upgrade is definitely worth it. in comparison, the xl isnt that much different, i own a classic and have access to the xl.

Is it the same upgrade as the (xl) the FMX008M: 8MB Flash ROM board.
Will that work for the classic?

You definately can hookup a scsi zip to the classic and it is worth it because you will run into trouble sooner or later if you save on floppy, it is also a bit annoying if it takes you 8 floppies to save a song. and afterwards one of the floppies turns out to be corrupted

I use an original 2000 also, I name all my files easy names to remember, I have no need for file folders for organizing. I have one zip for samples that I didn't use, 1 for incomplete songs/sequences with programs and sounds, and 1 for complete songs/sequences with programs and sounds. I also have a CD ROM drive, and a couple zips of other sounds I acquired from various sources... maybe a method similar to mine will help you organize... A pro to owning the original 2000 is that it's alot simpler without the extra features of the XL, and I never ever had a hardware problem with crashing, freezing, or locking up.

Yeah I guess your right, I just have to name my samples correctly.
How much is the flash rom, and is it in fact the same one for the (xl)?

Are you sure you want the flash rom? That shit is mad expensive!
Don't get it confused with the 32mb memory upgrade which is like $10 on ebay..

If the flash rom is what you really want you can do a search in google to find it, shouldn't be hard.

i use the original 2000. Ever since i got the 32 mb memory and the zip drive, its been so much easier(fasterloading, only have to use one disc, etc) i went from like 21 seconds of sampling time to 3 minutes and some seconds or more.

i'm usin' the 2k with external ZIP(100 Mb),external Cd-Rom drive,and it's workin' fine.U don't need the flash rom:it's very expensive for the use you have..;but the Zip is very important and very convinient to me....

24/7... I think it's actually six minutes, in mono... 3 minutes is stereo I belive.... I rarely sample in stereo...

2000 is great, I've used mine for 5 years, no probs, except with those damn zip drives. My advice, go on ebay, buy three of em at $30/a piece, you'll get at least one that works well.

I rock the 2000 also. I have no problems. Bought an external zip off e-bay for $18.00 and upgraded to 32mb for $14. As far as I see it, I have a 2000XL/4000 when I accompany my 2000 with my laptob which I have software which is a lot quicker than processing on the 2000XL. Not sure about the 4000 though.

I´m another 2000 user.... 2 Zips, 1 MO-drive and an external 1GB HD.
No need for Flash. I had no probs with Zip-Disks in the last 4 years, but backup all sounds and beats on the HD and/or on the MO-Drive....

I follow the same route as Toecutter, with the difference that I keep all my samples on my PC, and I only use the zip/floppy for transferring my samples from pc to mpc. Any programs, sequences, etc are saved to my zip but quickly transferred to my pc for more permanent storage, and if so burn a copy on cd.
My setup is mpc, zip, mpc editor, soundforge. I do chop on my mpc, its not hard just takes time (as all things do).

rock the 2000 also, look on craigslist for scsi zip drives, i got 5 of em for 20 bucks, got one usb zip on the pc and its real easy to transfer
