MPC Model: akai mpc 2000xl its a corny lil compressor, i dont like it much. i love my 5080, not only do i get to install 4 srx boards, i can toss in 4 jv boards!! i got the following jv boards: hip hop, synth, and sounds of the 60s n 70s. i got a question about your setup thoe. do you run everything thru your yamaha 02 so you can mix the beat, then track it into pro tools? and how are you controlling all those keyboards n modules and software? i been asking that midi question for hella long!! check my beats out at www.myspace.com/blackiceclickk , i did all of those

Yeah man at first I was looking at the 5080 when I heard it it was amazing, off the chain, love the sounds in it. I settled for the 3080 and it's hot too, I have bassNdrums, Orch 2 card, Session, Country (for guitars),
and the string card, in it. I love the polyphony that is has verses the 1080 which I have also blown out with cards. I only need one more to go in the 3080, I will chose which one I want, the SRX cards sound really good, specially I have my 3080 going out stereo into my O2R. Also my Triton Rack going out stereo into my board, but my 1080 and Trinity are going out mono for mono reasons that is, instruments etc, being that the Triton Rack and 3080 are 128 polyphony they are the best sounding especially when I do my strings from there.

The funny thing is I had made up a way to produce without using midi because at the time I didn't understand midi now I do but I love the old way I produced so I stuck with it. Being it had more convienence to make up the whole track inside the MPC then drop it to Zip disk and I could go to the studio. Now I just do it all through the MPC then I drop it to Protools, then I save that Protools file and put it on my portable hard drive that is USB enable then I am out the door.

This is how I have it, I have all three of my hardware modules midi to my Trinity keyboard which all four are running to my O2R. So say if I have a sound from the Triton I like and a sound from the 3080 and can mix them together to get a new sound, I can do that because everything is ran through my board and you can hear all of them at the same time if you pull up the faders. That's how I rock it, other people have the MPC midi up with the keyboards angkjg blllllwas yuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkk . lol Now I have the M-Audio 88 Pro Key joint and that run all my software modules like Sample Tank, Sonik Synth, Atmosphere, Philharmonik Miroslav etc and I can hear those through my board too because I run the 002Rack into my board TRS stereo. At first I use to produce where as I would play what I wanted on my cd burner then play that back into the MPC it was cool at the time but when I got protools on forget about it. What I do is, I make up the drums on the MPC then when I start wanting to add things from the 3080 what I do is play the beat from the MPC then trigger my 3080 with the Trinity and it records up into Protools. Then I bounce to disk , and save it on a Zip take out the zip put it in the zip that's hookedup to my MPC and cut it a little put it on a pad and it falls right in. I have my O2R going out litepipe digitally into the 002Rack and it sounds amazingly real, better than the old way I was doing it. Then when I am finished run everything from the MPC digitally out into Protools and it's there and it's hot, it comes out real nice and spatial sometimes I can't believe it. Also my 88 key is running inside my USB port on my Creation Station computer and being the polyphony in say like Sample Tank and Philharmonik are like 256 something like that way better than 128 , I can sample straight into the MPC, because remember I have the 002Rack running into my board which my board running into my record in for the MPC, and waaaaalllllah I do my thing. When people see how I do it they say" man you are a freaky computer tech nerd genius " lol ctfu I just laugh, when you have to do what you have to do you find a way. The way I got it set up works for me and people just don't understand it. It's really simple though I am sure Im not the only cat doing it like this. Or am I ? lol yeah so that's the set up.

If you have a question about midi just ask me, if it's for the software or hardware, let me know.

DrNo:
Have you heard the newish RZA joint (Biochemical equation)? I think the main sample is off that Donnie Hathaway rec you have. I got that sly and the family stone rec, theres def a couple of good breaks on there, probably well sampled tho.

Naw, I haven't heard that new Rza, but that Hathaway album is pretty popular so I wouldn't be surprised. The break on "Magnificent Sanctuary Band" has been sampled a lot.

M-Prez Like your joint, you definitely have a record collection I know you should be killing it.

Conce3pt, feeling your joint too. How you liking that MPC 2500? I love the way it looks, but my baby is the MPC2000XL I don't even wanna work with nothing else. Oh and how you using that bad boy, is it hooked up to a computer? Or you got it hooked up to the Motif?

Yo skmagnum I had the DM-24, yo man the TC effects were hot to deaf. But it went bonkers on me, sold it went and got me an O2R because when It first came out I wanted it, it was to much, then I got this one and it was a wrap. The O2R is a classic board, it's warm and it operates just how I like it, and the effects I love, plus it take a lot of ins in it and I love that. But I am going to step up the the O2R-24/96, oh my Gawd that piece is off the chain, it has an effect in there that i love and it's going to change my sound and have people loving and wanting it. It's just a beautiful board. Tascam dm24 is a bit querky to use you have to set up stuff before you can use it so beware...... I can't trust Tascam again when it comes to boards. I love the straight 24 channels you get on the O2R only four is stereo which is good for my needs. I aint trying to tell you what to get but you might wanna look into Yamaha digital boards, I trust them when it comes to digital boards, so check that out . peace
