new to the mpc game....

just lifted a 2000xl off craigslist...never had an mpc but it sounded like the thing to get to take the next step. i came up using mixman studio and within the past 2 years i've been using reason. damn!!! technology is crazy. anyone else out there start from scratch like this?

yea...I dropped like 2 G's on my setup after messing with Fruity loops and Acid for a few months...

how long did it take you to learn your mpc then? i feel far far away right now....

It takes a while. Just read the manual and play with your MPC and everyday you will get a little better. Maybe buy the e-book from this site.

i bought that book the other night...hell yeah i did. VERY helpful. the cat i got it off also gave me the sample kings dvd's. it's like learning calculus at 1st but slowly you figure shiz out....i haven't even laid a beat yet.
does anyone out there have any tips as far as connecting your mpc to your computer? i have mad reason shiz and a m-audio keyboard.

Keep using the Open Window button on everything, you'll learn a lot.

yeah dude i'm in the same boat, just picked up the 2000 classic like 2 weeks ago. before that i've been using reason for a couple of years. read the manual, have it handy in case you need it for reference... so far the MPC has been pretty intuitive for me (besides the fact that when you're saving a sound you MUST HIT ENTER before closing the window... that's happened to me so many times already) I've been ripping sounds off of reason into t he mpc, so you really get the best of both worlds, reasons large soundbanks and pretty solid synthesizer options and whatnot, but instead of the mechanical feel of reason, you import them onto the mpc and get that hiphop human feel almost immediately. there is a video on youtube of someone showing how to hook up reason to the MPC 1000, might want to check that out, I think it might of been made by someone off these boards actually? anyway, i'm going to bed, then tomorrow i'm gonna go look for an SCSI zipdisk drive. how are you getting sounds from reason to the mpc? that's what i'm looking to do is incorporate reason AND my mpc. i just really need to know connection scenarios so i can blast off eventually.

uhh right now I'm just going from my soundcard to a mixer, then the record out to the MPC where I sample it. this leaves much to be desired. i just have a crappy soundblaster and the quality really sucks on it. if you have a good soundcard i'd assume it'd be fine, but damn its full of hiss and shit on mine. what i'm going to do is hookup my ZIP drive with a parallel port into my printer slot on the comp, then hook up a SCSI zip i just won off ebay for like 5 bucks plus S+H into the MPC. Then I'll be able to just drag sounds into the zip on the computer, pop out the disk and load them into my MPC. Or so I think.

thats the video I mentioned earlier on actually hooking up reason to the MPC with midi and all that. useful stuff, but i'm waiting till i setup the studio in my new house later this month to do that.
