Where can I get MPC OS software for free?

Is is possible to get the lastest MPC 60 software for free?

I don't know, it seems kind of silly actually spending money on software that came out in like 1991. That woud be like spending money on Mac OS 7.

Well, it's actual chips you need to install. So unless you can steal them from someone or someone will give you an OS, you gotta pay.

I bought my 60 with the newest OS already in it, but from what I've read it is really worth it to upgrade.

Damn. I love my MPC but sometimes I think having such an old model isn't worth the headache.

1991 would mean the previous "AKAI branded" version of OS, 2.12 and in some rare cases, 2.14 ... ( the one that you can obtain for free or a nominal charge if you know where to look ).

The latest version is Roger Linn's team re-developed OS for the MPC60.

It is a major step up from the old 2.12 versions that shipped with MPC60/60II machines all those years ago.

Parts and support at some level cost money.

Support the work Roger's team did and you'll enjoy your machine a whole lot more.

Note too that the price for his upgrade is cheap considering how much it will improve the relationship between you and your MPC60/60II.

60 is one of the dopest MPC's, its worth the money for the upgrade. It opens up the machine so much more then the original OS's.

Remember a few things:

1) This is a classic musical instrument, not just another computer.

3) Pay the money for a change, stop expecting everything for free.

the 3.10e OS version was released in 1997, dont ask me what MAC OS that year coincides with


the 3.10e EPROM chips turn your 60 into a whole new machine... $195 aint schit to pay for a whole new mpc, think about it, if you dont like the newer OS you could always sell them FOR AT LEAST WHAT YOU PAID FOR THEM, these chips will hold their value basicly forever... the big thing is GETTING YOUR HANDS ON A SET OF THESE CHIPS, not the NOMINAL price that they are going for... from what ive heard recently even ROGERLINNDESIGN is out of them and they are taking backorders or some schit... my advice to anyone with a 60, GET OS 3.10e INSTALLED ON YOUR 60 AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! you never know when all the outlets for this OS are gonna discontinue it and it will then be unavailable and the price gouging will probably double their price!

the point I'm trying to make is just cos something is old doesn't mean you get it free or cheap. Its obsolete technology and is more expensive to make, plus they have to be manufactured in bulk (in one batch?) which is quite a sum of £/$....

Oi Xeyeile, how do the TX16W and S950 compare in your opinion? And is there anyway to playback samples in the TX without having to use a MIDI controller of some kind?

based on all the info i've been reading i gave roger linn design a call to see if they had the OS 3.10 in-stock. the guy said that they did have it in-stock and that it would ship the same day.

i've just read conflicting info on the mpc60 yahoo group by hire. this is what he posted...

Just got an email reply from Roger Linn Design. They confirmed again that the chips are in stock and take about 2 days to ship. Looks like a green light for me. Just gotta save some loot...GOOD SH*T!!!!!
