Talk and share knowledge on rare records, sources of new samples, vinyl, diggin, etc
By _Stilo_ Sat May 27, 2006 11:44 am
Alright folks, I'll be going to the San Francisco area in a week, and of course I won't leave without a bunch of records in my bags. I know DJ e.d.e.'s place already and plan on stopping by. Anybody got some tips where else to dig for records in the SF area?

Also, any tips for music events (apart from the obvious online announced ones) from June 3 to 17?

Any info from the locals would be much appreciated!

Peace,
Stilo.

all right my friend here are a few spots that alot of ppl might know about, so I don't mind passing info out to visters to the SCO.

Open Mind Music- one of my favs, good $1 bins for hip-hop, nice jazz, rock,
roots and dub sections. prices are ok. (415)621-2244

Groove Merchant- I go to this spot to find the rare music that i can't find
any where. So you know you will be paying=$$$$

Funky Soul Stop(Oakland)- hop your a$$ onto Bart out of S.F. and go over
Oakland. nice place to dig, very small and cozy
$$$-varys. (510)452-2452
note: owner only opens up from 2pm-6pm.

this is only three, but there is tons of spots in the bay. Goodwill and 2nd hand shops are nice too. Rasputin and Amebas are spots to get newer stuff. Just get a telephone book when you get here or call 411 for info and directions to some of these spots. hope this helps, oh yeah hit up e.d.e's place in Fremont ( you can catch the Bart train out to there also).

..one..

Streetlight: Noe and 24th, or Market a block away from the Castro (extremely gully area, watch out)
Amoeba records: Haight & Stanyan
There's this old, dusty place I found by the Fillmore, it was empty when I went in, records everywhere, on tables, on the floor, in corners, you might find some interesting stuff there. I don't know the street, though. If I drive by the next couple of days I'll make sure to remember the street and give it to you.
Rasputin Records is a block up from market on the street where the cable car starts. Just go to around 5th and market, find the "loop" where the cable car comes around, and walk up a block. It's to the left, on the corner.

If anyone has anymore places I'm interested to know as well.

When i went to san francisco, i went to the north part, san rafael..and when we were at the car show. I saw a record store. called.. Red Devil Records. They do alot of rock/jazz....SO i bagged alot of shit. First issues, no re-presses. I came out with about 150+ records. i had like 3 crates. I cleaned their reggae section. And there new arrivals..And they had alot of one dollor records that i came up on...But it was a good place. I just hope every other spot in the bay area has heat or better!!!!!!!!!!
