so i was writing this stuff in the 2500 forum about the 1k and i'm kinda curious what the people here think..

it's about how akai worked out their strategy tactics on the 1k.. ofcourse, i'm not sure, we can only speculate.. but i wanna know what you people think

actually we could expect the same nasty trick akai did with the mpc 1000..

1.make a buggy machine
2. slow slow slow OS updates
3. drop the price from the machine with -200 $
4. update the OS with lots of new features, updates and fixes
5. pop the machine in a new box with some little extra's
6. sell it again at it's original price
7. sh1t is selling like a mallafakka

i know this is true.. becuz before os 2.0 on the mpc1000 everyone was selling their mpc like crazy.. even i did!.. and then they come up with this new OS.. and now you see nobody selling their mpc1k

now ain't that some nasty tactics?

Same as before for me: -

Hats Off to AKAI
Check the release date of the 1K then check the release date of the free, major upgrade that they released. Not long at all for completely overhauling the OS. Didn't cost users a penny and introduced functionality that users wished for but that far exceeded the machines original OS.

Hats off to them I say. Pound for pound, the 1K is one of the best MPCs ever produced and there's a strong possibility that there are more updates to come. Everyone has their opinions but I'm surprised to see a company being criticised for trying to do the right thing.

For people that knew what they were buying, the 1K was and is a great piece of kit.

Lame selling tactic? I've obviously missed those adverts. I knew what I was buying and getting a full upgrade for free - including ability to add HDD - was a major bonus.

If continuing to support products long after sales have peaked - see recent OS upgrade and card functionality for 2KXl as proof of this - is not typical of a company trying to do the right thing by their users then what is?

The MPC2.5K is an absolute beast of a machine and Akai will do their best to ensure it fulfills its potential and becomes a future classic.

Well offcourse everyone knew what they were buying with the mpc1k(os 1.0) but nobody would have expected that the machine was so buggy..

maybe it's also possible that they felt guilty for messing up with a machine that really was poor beta tested..

i very agree that a company should do the right thing, but you gotta look at the big picture and at the facts. and with the facts about the mpc1k with the buggy release untill os 2.0.. it seems very strange to me and i start to think it's a lame selling technique..

maybe i'm also mad because i sold my mpc1000 before OS 2.0.. because then i would have kept the little fuqqer..

I know, and I was asking which part of the steps listed are the shady part because to me, none of it is shady.

it could have been planned the whole time, and it probably was on some level
(hard drive bay already built in)
but one would honestly hope to be buying a machine that was still being supported, you know? it promises longevity, and increased power as the machine gets more developed.

so it could be particularly nasty marketing tactics
it could also just be improving desireability of what was turning into an unpopular machine (read - mpc forums.com before october 2005 and sparq's information).

but think of this -- the mpc still has open connections where nothign yet goes. Stereoroid spotted the mpc1000 hd 13 bay loooong before os 2 was even a catch phrase. if i'm not sorely mistaken, there's still something open - and none of us have any idea what that could be.

think about the effects board for the mpc2000. addon w/ extra features. interesting, huh? what the hell else could they put on that little board in there?

maybe something is yet to come. who knows? maybe they just wanted to keep the option open.

^^^ valid point. it's like games consoles, the software programmers are provided with the same hardware, but in the period of time that the machine is out, there are improvements in graphics, complexity of model etc. all because the programmers learn new tricks with the hardware. saying that akai had an evil motive in creating an initially under-powered mpc is a little like saying the same of sony when comparing early games on the ps2 with later games. i think they obviously had a hard drive in mind from the beginning, but perhaps not all of the other functions were on the drawing board until the programmers worked out efficient ways of implementing them. maybe that's a naive view, i dunno. ???

either naive or hopeful

it'll make you look like less of a wanker
