mixdown

Hi

At the moment my set up comprises of an mpc2kXL, novation k station, decks and PC (which I occassionaly use for sonar)......Ive made a few tunes but now wanna progress further with the mixdown of tracks....can anyone give an insight into their preference into this process (digi mixing desk, pc, analog desk ??)....at the moment Im feeding the tracks into my pc (once sequenced/edited on the mpc) but this is done 1 by 1 via audio and I feel its a little arsed backwards as the tracks have to be rearranged on the pc seq to correct positions before I dabble with the eq'ing.....sorry if this sounds a little silly......would appreciate any feedback...cheers....

I have a Fostex MR-8 Multitrack which I use to track all the sounds two at a time, then I dump all the .wavs into Acid PRO 4.0. I then set the tracks to one shot instead of beatmapped or loop so I don't have to worry about timing. Then I save the project (with all media selected) then zip it up for space. You might be intrested in getting a pro tools rig, but what your doing now sounds fine. It might help to midi sync sonar(never used it) to MPC so it records with perfect timing.

It would be best to invest in a pc card with multiple inputs (and outputs if needs be). There are plenty of cards available e.g. M-Audio, MOTU, Digidesign, RME etc. Get one that best suits your needs. They can be picked up on ebay real cheap This is what I use with my setup, and you get to maintain high quality recordings!!

If you want the best sound quality possible invest in hardware like the pro tools 002 rack. Sound cards are good but hardware is way better. Especially for recording live instruments and bands.
