A lot of questions!

Firstr off let me relay my current setup:
ibook G4
Reason3
m-audio mobile pre
oxygen8 controller
akai mpd16
2x rokit rp8
roland tr-505 (ohhhh yeah)
2x numark tt-500 turntables
Pioneer DJM-707 mixer

So I've been hacking away at Reason 3 for awhile now, and made a few alright beats, but I'm starting to feel that software really isn't for me. Whenever a few of my boys come over all we do is ***** about the problems we're having with Reason (I know Reason is an excellent program I think I just lack the knack for it). So I have decided to go in the hardware direction (the tr-505 convinced me to makie the change) and take a more hands-on approach. I'm in the process of selling the oxygen8, mpd16, textbooks, an old motorcycle, turntable cases, xbox, and my super nintendo (ha ha ha..i know). Fromn this I expect to get, at most, $800. So, with this I was thinking about buying either an mpc1000 or a 2000xl (about the same on ebay, right?) and perhaps a casio sk-1 to go along with my tr-505 for a sort of old school sound.

So basically:
1. Do you think going with hardware would be a good choice.
2. Should I sell my oxygen8, or keep it to go with my mpc to do strings and keys? (I don't think any of the old casio models have midi, or else I'd just use those)
3. mpc1000 or 2000xl for an mpc n00b?
4. If I do sell everything and buy the mpc, should I use the extra cash for an sk-1/5/8 or is there something more useful with the mpc?

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated, and if you read all of this thank you very much! Anything helps!

I would keep reason and use it wit my mpc...

yeah, i was going to keep Reason, and maybe slave it to the mpc. But For a keyboard I want one that can sample (if only a few seconds) and also have a midi connection. I liked the casio sk-1 cuz it has that grimmy sound and can sample (unfortuantely no midi). Any suggestions for that kind of controller? Thanks!

basically, all you need is live5. live5, mpd16 and reason is a souped up mpc1000/2000/2000xl/25000.

i do not think your g4 is fast enough to run live5, reason and colossus anyways.

Another good point...as of now my computer is slow and a bit jumpy, so I really think an mpc would just e easier all around.

If you want to get completely away from software...Go with the 2000XL.



I have mine and the only time a computer is needed is when i rip my beats from the MP to Pro Tools...


Although sometimes when im chopping somethin very intricate, ill use the computer, cause you can zoom in and have it hit on the exact millisecond...but thats rarely i use my comp. to chop.




MPC1000...i like the portability...i hate the pads, and to me, it seems like it was made to operate along with a computer i.e) reason.

yo whats good homie! holla at me if ya need more info on what im about to give you or any other info! buy pro tools 7.1 .... its easy as hell to use and its pretty cheap as well ... look just go to ebay and type in pro tools 7.1 or watever find out the full name of the pro tools 7.1.. id really know the name but i got it.lol.but just go hear as well... m-audio.com and go to software and they have a variety of selections... go to m-audio.com and click on software. and then click on production software and choose between live lite 5 or pro tools (i sudggest pro tools! its easy to use!)
