I'm not getting any audio signal coming out of any of the jacks in the back of the unit.

Tried the digital out, the main stereo outs, and the individual outs. Nothing. But the headphone out works great.

This is my first MPC, but I gotta believe that this isn't right. I upgraded to the latest OS as well. Is there something so basic that I am missing?

0kay, more mystery.

If I leave my 2GB flash card in the unit, the audio won't playback.

If I take the 2GB flash card out, the audio will play back out of the main stereo outs (1/4") but the digital out will not work under any circurmstance at this point.

Weird. I even reloaded the OS and held Erase when powering back up to see if a reset would help.

anyone have any ideas?

you have the mpc2500 right? well i dont really no. maybe you have something switched off in the mpc. reset it or call akai help??.....
do you also have the cd drive for it?

no CD drive. Well, I can get the master outs to work reliably, but no digital out at this point. Digital In will work (I tested it using the Input Thru settings with my DJM-800 supplying the audio from Ableton Live), but not out.

Frustrating. I wonder if I just have a bum unit.

MPC 2500 w/ software version 1.2.1. Latest and greatest.

I'm going to take it back to Guitar Center tomorrow and see if I can't find another unit to verify against this one. I don't see any reason why the digital out shouldn't work.

Thanks for thinking about this, though. :)

okay, new thread time.

I exchanged the unit for another brand new one. No digital audio out still.

Can't be the problem I stated above. There is something that I don't know what I'm doing.

My guess is the MPC is autoloading some settings from the CF card when you put it in. Does it have an "Autoload" folder on the root level of the card?

I was actually able to confirm it was working (the MPC anyway).

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=52849

the real problem, it seems, is that the DJM-800 digital in and the MPC-2500 digital out don't like to talk to each other for some reason.

There is an incompatibilty there that I don't know how to diagnose. I have a query into Pioneer to find out the exact specifications of their digital in and when I find that out, then I'll hit up Akai to see what their output specs are.

Should be able to figure out what the issue is at that point.

I hope anyway, I really, really want to use the digital chain between the the MPC and the DJM. Clean and simple.

sorry to spam this response, but want to keep the solution for those looking/searching different threads available:

okay found a kludge fix.

In this case, I found that I could solve my problem by taking the digital out of the MPC input it to my Motu Ultralite S/PDIF input - then route that same signal back through the S/PDIF Out of the Motu unit and take that signal via S/PDIF and hook it up to the digital in of the pioneer DJM-800.

This apparently lets the MOTU convert the signal from a non-linear PCM signal (during its internal path) and then outputs it to a linear pcm signal.

Something the Pioneer understands.

Now that I've done all of this, I wonder if the 1/4" line outs of the MPC routed into Line In (non digital) on the DJM sound better than the digital path. Might be too much jitter introduced in all the conversions going on. Can't be sure.

In any case, at least I've found a work around for the time being.

Whew. What a crazy weekend.

Yea, I read your other thread...I thought you had a problem with all of the outs in this one.

Ha...if that was the case, a whole lot of people would have a problem, don't you think so? Very few people actually use the digital outs I think.

yeah, it seems like not very many people use the digital outs as far as I could tell. Not a lot of reference material anywhere to read. Most people are using the 1/4" outs. :)

I was using the digital out at first and did have problems but the settings i needed to change were with the sound card software so i'm not sure how you'd approach it with the DJM
