How many monitors do you know that run off of USB? NONE! There is a reason - bandwidth. Maybe on USB2, I dunno, but the 4000 has USB1 so this is a non-starter.

Who should I write to for Final OS suggestions? I know there's still speculation on whether or not there will be one, but it can't hurt. Anyways, here are my suggestions...focusing on improving WORKFLOW....

1. On the Timing Correct/Shift Timing page, hitting the SHIFT button will automatically reset Swing % and Shift Amount to 50% and 0. How many times do you use swing or shift timing on a track, only to have to go back to that page and have to manually set Swing back to 50% and Shift Amount to 0 again before recording the new track? This would save me a lot of time.

2. Another issue with the 4000 that seems to make people feel the workflow on the other models is faster, is the large amount of information on the Main Screen and the number of button presses it takes to navigate through the options. I think it's great to be able to see so much info at once without having to go through other windows, but it also requires more clicks to move the cursor around all those fields. Sure there is the Block Cursor to help you jump around, but I feel like the layout can be further improved to increase navigation speed. For example, I always have the smaller Master tempo 120.0 underneath the main 120.0 turned off to remove screen clutter and eliminate one click step for a feature I don't use often. Perhaps the cursor shouldnt stop on the "SEQ MASTER" since there is a dedicated button for that? Having the cursor not stop on the MUTE field could help as well. Some people used to complain about the lack of a dedicated Count IN button like on the 3000 model, and maybe something should be done about that as well. It does seem to take a lot of clicks to get to the upper right corner where the metronome is so I always go to the MISC page and adjust Count In/Off from there. Though the latest OS of the 4000 is already fairly efficient, I think there is still room to make things really fly.

3. Being able to go to the PAD ASSIGN page and change a sample from One Shot, Loop, etc...Think how easy and efficient that would be. You have a sample on a pad. You hit PAD ASSIGN, hit the pad you want to change, press the Window key, and then change your sample to ONE SHOT.Maybe there's a better way than what I'm suggesting, but it seems unnecessarily bothersome to be able to do that right now.

4. I still cant figure out the easiest way to go about layering drums when you want to filter individual layers in different ways..This seemed really easy on the 2000xl.

Any other ideas guys? For those of you that are freshly coming from 3000 and 2000xl models, what seems "slower" to you on the 4000 that can easily be improved? I know this is nitpicking but I feel that it can make an already great machine even more streamlined and better.

A few small things that would save me a lot of time:

I wish that I could copy an entire track from one sequence to another! Why does the STEP EDIT's COPY TO function allow you to copy between sequences, but not the track copy operation? The problem with doing it using the STEP EDIT COPY TO operation is that you don't get the track name, output channel settings, and other parameters.

I wish that in STEP EDIT, that I could change a note / pad value simply by moving to the note / pad number and pressing the pad or note that I want to change it to. In many menus of the MPC this is already possible. Alternatively, let the MOVE tab within the STEP EDIT menu offer the option to change note / pad, like it does in the SEQ EDIT menu.

I wish that in the STEP EDIT menu, I could hold SHIFT and use the >> keys to highlight entire measures. In a bizarre twist, this works for the << key but not the >> key! Using the jogwheel to move forward really wastes a lot of time.

I wish that when you highlight a group of notes in SEQ EDIT, then press window, that the window you end up in had a full set of editing capabilities (i.e., the STEP EDIT functions). This would make it possible to highlight a range of notes / pads and to work on just those with the step editor.

Getting around the main page would be easier if holding down the right cursor / left cursor buttons would tab you through ALL the fields on the main page instead of only the fields in the current cursor block.

Well, they do pay attention to their forum and definetly this one as well, but most of those items above are just them catching up to what the 4k Already does.... so they may be more reading our manual to get these then anything from the Forum.

--- Transmit Program Change as Track Parameter=have it already, plus we can change Multi's as Track Parameter and 8000 can't and REALLY needs this feature
--- Pencil Tool=fairly useless to have a pencil tool on the 4000
--- Independant 3-Band Q for each Audio Track and Instrument Part=nice feature. But when you consider that an Audio Track has NO Filter available (except via FX send/insert, and only 1 MFX so that same filter setting has to be applied to ALL parts), we already sort have this with our filter system. But it would be nice for Akai to implement a seperate EQ per Program/KGZone/Pad
--- Import Patch Preview=another nice feature, though myself, I can usually figure my Program/Patch by listening to a sample from it...


The nice thing is that Roland does actively participate in the MV Nation forums and definetly has been doing timely updates on their products with many requests. The next thing they need to do is beef up the sampler that they are using, as it's a fairly basic sampler, but I don't think they have much interest in that though...

Ive got a few features Id like to add,
but Ill just drope one cos it somehow gets overlooked all the time when a list is made, and I find it to be vip so to add it in once agien

its basicly a one shot loop...

LOOP HOLD
a Loop mode * in in program mode / zone / where you set the sound/pad to: one shot, loop or as played
LOOP HOLD will play the loop continuisly untill the pad is pressed agien (or as manytimes as indicated in sampled trim/loop)

Hitting the pad will start the loop,
Hitting the pad 2nd time will stop the loop
(hitting stop will stop all Pad loops)
and an option to generate a midi sequnece from currently looping pads would complete the pack

Its a very simple one but it has huge creatif impact

That's a great place for it,that would be efficient , I'd like to see if in this same page where your loop,oneshot pad assign there would be a way to truncate that desired pad/sample as well like just jumping to the sample your on in the trim page. hence quick editing...maybe ? anyone got any news on if this is possible for Akai to finish the 4000? :]

Be our guest as he works with MPC 3000. Along with JJ who said no. Three months later and still there will be no new O.S. Maybe next dec a new mpc but no new O.S.
