'Wrong File'

Has anyone gotten this error when trying to load a program with the samples? I have gotten it numerous times and it is annoying. The ssmples are definitely there but it says wrong file when it tries to load them???

A lot of others have reported getting this too. I hadn't been getting it, and just today it happened to me for the first time. I tried to load a kit that I ahd originally created on its own. I later used that same kit in a project file. While working on the project, I made changes to the program (Added samples, changed assignments, etcc.) I saved the project, but then also saved the program individually. Today was the first time I tried to open it by itself since the last save and I got the error. Luckliy I had used the kit on a few other project files, so I grabbed it from one of them and saved it individually again and it works fine...

That's so funny that you bring that up. I was in the middle of a performance on Saturday Night and it gave me the 'wrong file' error. Incidentally, I actually just loaded the .Wav file that was supposed to be loaded with the program (yes, the one that produced the 'wrong file' error) and it worked. Unfortunately since the night was going too fast, I didn't get to save it that way when it was right but nonetheless, it worked. Really Cool!

Yeah I got that while using "save all programs and sequences" feature

Yea, the wav files are unaffected. It's the program file that contains the 'meta data' about the wav files and the settings that gets screwed from what I can tell. The guythat makes MPCprogram maker has a page on his site that descripbes the format used by the program files in detail. Based on that info, it seems that dirty data that falls outside the prescribed format gets written to the program file somehow OR it's just another random bug!!

Yes, I agree that you are totally right. When I loaded the wave, I had to open a 'new' program and save that sound to the program. I am fortunate that it was only a 1 wav file program. When it happened to you did your program have several wav files or just 1? Also, who is the MPC Program maker guy?

My programs had wavs on every pad across all four banks, so when I first got the error, my heart dropped out of reflex. But due to monitoring these forums before getting the MPC i had set up backups of everything from day one.

Ok, the maker of MPC Program maker is seishu, but the guy who gave the info on the program format makes MPC 187 (another program maker, but for the 1k). He is Stephen Norum

So you made backups...did you just recopy your program file back on to your drive? Or did you rebuild the program by reloading all the waves? I am just curious because I don't want to deal with this in live performance....Also, has this happened to you since OS 1.21?

when you have a problem like this it is helpful to state which OS you are using.

I'm using the lastest OS and I get the 'wrong file' error all the time.
I've gotten pretty good about backing up all my programs though.

Yea I didn't get this until after I was on 1.21 (not saying that is the cause though. I think it was something in the way I saved things -- All programs 7& samples usually wacks things up, but I stopped using that early on because it never aved the mappings. The pattern I noticed is that I'll do a save of a project and then save the individual kit while working on the project. After that it seems to die out). When I restore I just restore the program file itself since that's the only file that appears to be damaged. After I do a restore I'll attempt a remap and a save of the individual program and then a reload of it to ensure it works. IF it works I immediately back it up so i have the latest mappings.

Does anyone have a fix for this 'Wrong File' issue. I did not make backups unfortunately. I need to open my pgm ASAP, I'm pushed for time. Any recommendations?

i used to get the "wrong file" message on the first o.s
all the time but then i just changed the way i saved and loaded stuff
and i haven't ever had it again on any of the operating systems.
