Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey every1!
Need some help desperately.. This Bug/Fault in the MPC is making me loco!
Ive tried neally everything for months now, cant get on with the music :<

Basically im trying to transfer my perfectly chopped up and trimmed drum samples (that i did on my Mac in logic) into the MPC 2000XL.
(Im using a CF Card and reader plugged into my computer to do all this btw)

I can do this. No probs.. However, when i play back the wav in the mpc its CUTTING off SOME of the end portion of the sample!!

I need to know who out there is doing what im doing, ie: editing samples on the computer and transfering successfully without it taking the very end off the wav?
If so, could you please list :
- OS of the MPC
- what media ? zip disk or Compact cards?
- what platform? mac/PC?

There was another guy on here who had the same problem..

Will really appreciate..
Thanks

Maybe u should leave some silence in ur Wav on the start and ending .
and chop it off on the mpc .its lot of worke but it should work

2. its logic.when u start bouncing a sound clip, start bouncing one bar before the clip starts then import it to wavelab chop it off and render it to an 16bit mono wav. so u can save lots of mb . it should work couse i didnt updrade my mpc an in the same way i export my whole songs from logic 5 into the mpc 4 my lifeperformance

check some of my mp3 s

Hmmm...I think this problem has to do with different .wav formats.

A wav file consists of two simple things. It contains the "file header" which contains some info about the sample (Name, length, sample rate, bit depth etc.) and after that it's just the sample data.

Some programs like Cakewalk and Acid, for example, will add their own specific info into the wav's file header.
Although this is legal under the definition of the WAV file format some older machines like the MPC can see this extra data as part of the sample data and get confused. Also the Mac OS might be adding extra stuff too (although I've never had a problem with a Mac)

In a nutshell , in the above example, Cakewalk or Acid has added extra info to the wav file and it's possible that the MPC is misreading the info and messing with the sample length.

This is probably the reason that some people have problems with this and others don't. It depends on the program and Operating system. I think Soundforge is a good example of a program that will write a Wav file that is compatible with everything. For some reason I trust soundforge more than other programs..

There is another shareware program that does something like this called Stripwav that removes a lot of the more modern information in the wave file.

To be honest all the above is a theory but it would explain a lot.

the mpc adds 30ms to clean up and clicks, try getting rid of the defualt 5 ms decay time, your sounds are also probably set to note off, which is gate mode, try holding the pad down to play the sample out instead of stabbing the pads, better yet, cfhange the pads to mono mode.

u probably just need to add some silence at the end of your sample before transferring to the mpc

Hey THANK YOU for the replys every1 :>
rEALLY Appreciate that.

FLIPCUT:
I hear what ur saying about the bouncing issue with logic but im converting/editing these files to WAV within logics Audio Editor page, not in the arrangment screen.

NANOLOOP:
Nup, its none of these things ive made sure to that. To confirm that it isnt the 'program' changing how the samples played, i actually go into the Sample Edit page of the MPC and play the raw sample from there with no possibility of a program changing its behaviour when played.

KNOWLEDGEGOD:
Yeh, this would work i guess.. Up until yesterday i was confident i'd go down this route and ADD some silence to each one of my samples but i thought id try asking you fellow muzikmakers on here before i do that.
All those seconds of silence after the sample will eat into the mpc's already limited RAM. Plus it gets all too tedious..

I think your onto something here bro! :D :)
That StripWAV program sounds like the right medicine for my drum samples :> (Downloading it now)
The description sounds pretty much spot on..
I'll give it a try when im free and post bak to reveal the results okaay!
Wish me luck.

Thanks!

theres no need for a sampling programm .
add some silence on the end and start then cut em of and save the cutted one as an nu file and delete the old one .

i think its the best way . and never foged u are not on to produce a master cd so u only should use MONO files its more stereo compatible .

and try to bounce in the arrange ment screen in logic its much saver .then the digital audio mixdown

as stated in the manual the decay envelope prevents the end of the sample from playing all tha way through. use a program on your computer to insert silence to the end of the sample to get it sounding correct, or do it on the mpc(verytimeconsuming/frustrating). heard sound forge is quick for doing this. or a simple free .wav editor.

some one seriously needs to make a computer program where you could highlight as many .wav's as you want and have it automatically add a little silence or space at the end anyone know if this exists i will figure out some way to repay you if someone can point me to a software that can do this without manual doing it to each sample.

also if anyone can tell me a program that can combine short wav's to one new longer wav. i want to make my own sample cd, organize my drum hits, right now if i try to burn the cd track one will be one drum kick, that sucks i want track one to be like the first three drumkits ya know.

every function i need does not exist.

Soundforge will do this in batch mode. You basically setup a macro(script) to add silence and soundforge will apply this to every sample you want. you could also add sample rate conversion to the script if you want. I have Soundforge 6 and the batch processor seems to be missing from it but I definitely remember it in a previous version.

Sony Cd Architect will do this for you. It allows you to place P&Q codes (track numbers) wherever you want. So you could have your drumkits assigned per CD track. Again the older version of soundforge had CD architect built in so if you can track down version 4 of soundforge with Cd architect all your prayers wil be answered!
