Hi there, I have found when chopping parts on the MPC I add part of the next sound on the end and it sounds right, when I used to chop on the pc I found it was rigid, is that right?
I did it by sight on the pc I do it by ear on the MPC which is right? will my sound be c~+p if I add parts of the next kick to the snare and so forth?

good stuff!

its not always desirable to chop drum samples perfectly on the hits (transients) a-la RECYCLE. what you are doing with your mpc is much more interesting and can provide surprisingly good results by adding unexpected (ghost) hits before or after the main hits. this basically adds "feel" to your beats and makes them sound more realistic.

of course sometimes this approach wont sound right, so more rigid chopping may become essential.

this can be done on the mpc by adjusting your regions manually. recycle also does a good job, and has the added benefit of creating (recycle> export) akai programs along with a midi file (.AKP) from your slices. ready to load into your mpc and play back perfectly (usually!)
