AKAI Format CD's on 2500

I did a search, but didn't find anything yet. Forgive me if this is a repeat topic.

I'm expecting my new 2500 tomorrow from VST.

Does the 2500 read AKAI format CD's? Or do i have to continue using CDXTRACT?

back in tha day, when the MPC2K couldn't take .WAVs.. only .SNDs... i invested in a lot of AKAI sample CDs. i would convert them to .SNDs, because i didn't want to buy the Audio Sample CDs and lose quality by recording directly in (this was before WAV sample CDs were available). my MPC2k read them, and all the partitions just fine.

i guess i'll just have to wait and see.

btw.... props to VST. they had a great deal with a fully loaded 2500 for 2099... including 6 months warranty. i hope i don't get a lemon, but if i do i know i'm covered.

According to the manual it should load 2000XL SND files. Just try it as soon as you got it.

Is 6 months the legal implied warranty in the States? I guess I have to feel lucky that we have a legal warranty of 2 years here in germany...where I bought mine, they even offer a 3 year warranty with no charge.

What is the usual warranty in the UK? I hear the 2500 is pretty cheap over there as well.

i don't know the warranty through akai in the US, i believe the VST warrany is a 6 month extended. WOW... way off topic, huh...

yeah, i know it loads 2000 .SND files, but an akai format CD doesn't work off the .SND file format. it uses... um... .AKP? i believe? god, my memory is going... anyone know what the sound format is?

You said you have them converted to SND format already, so I thought you were going to use these. The Akai format is a proprietrary, and differs even for the different samplers. Here's some info about them:

But the 2500 cannot directly read them.

good info there. i remember seeing this info a while back, and it made me wish i knew coding to write an app to convert. thank god those apps exist today (chckensys translator, cdxtract)

i'm on my way to san jo to pick up the 2500 now... i'll post an update and let y'all know if the 2500 will read the AKAI cds...

otherwise i will have to convert them. no prob with that... just an extra step in the workflow process

i'm also interested to see how it reads my 2k .APS and .ALLs. of course, i had the effects card in my 2K, so obviously my effects settings won't be carried over. plus side on that... i can experiment with some new FXs on some old tracks. hopefully the delay will have an option to sync to clock, instead of using a calc to figure out milliseconds to BPM. YUCK!

It was aready mentioned...the 2500 doesn't read Akai CD Roms as of the latest OS.

Can you convert Akai samples from your PC's CD-ROM directly into WAV or SND with these? All programs I found so far seem to only work with floppies or SCSI drives.

stilo... you can use CDXTRACT (www.cdxtract.com) or Translator by chickensystems. CDXTRACT is way easier... in my opinion.

plus, translator has been promising support to MPC users for a while.. but never delivering. at least on the mac side.

Looks cool. But 139 resp. 129$ is a ridiculous price in my opinion. Guess I'll have to keep diggin for free tools...or start coding myself
