Press the MODE button and PAD 10 (OTHER). On the top left of the display, you'll see the version number. It's definitely not 2.10, since your MPC won't recognize anything over 2gb with any version before 2.0. So go to Akai's website, download the new OS 2.10 and the instructions for updating. If you have any problems updsting, do a search on this forum and you'll find all the answers you need.

The hard drive you're using is a bit dated, so they aren't as quiet as what's currently on the market. I'm using a 6gb Travelstar that's 7 years old, and it's very noisy. It works as it should, so I don't mind. When I fill the hard drive to it's capacity, then I'll pick up the Toshiba 40gb. For now I'm good with all the drive space I have left. So I'm sure your 20gb will keep you straight for a while, unless you want to eliminate the noise and buy a new drive.

Except that the LCD contrast now is lowered and I adjust it everyone I turn on the MPC. Is there a way to set this as a setting?

Also how can I copy files directly from my computer to the MPC's internal HD?

hi i got the 100gb toshiba hard drive everyone seems to have but it wont format using either os; just keeps saying system error and says full when u try and load so i cant u it at all. also the mpc seems alot slower when it in and the pc ignores it.
Do u think there is a problem with my mpc (had it a while, is blue version) or do u think the hard drive is faulty?
Please help someone;

has the buffer/cache been an issue of concern? is 2mb enough or should we look for 8/16mb harddrives? i've been shopping through harddrives online and see a lot of "buffer: 2mb" specs. i don't know the difference in these terms, either.

is your disk empty?
i think your disk has to be empty before you format it in the MPC...

i dont think there is any problem with your mpc though

I found a shop that will give me a good price on the MPC1000BK w/ 128MB RAM + HD mounting kit, so I placed an order today. I ordered from a pretty major music store over here in Japan, and they told me the 1000's are selling like crazy. They're actually out of stock nation wide and waiting for more from Akai. They'll let me know tomorrow when they can get me one. Hopefully it won't take long to get it.

I found a place that's selling that 80GB drive for the equivalent of $76USD.

I'm getting the MPC1000 with the 128MB ram and hard drive mounting kit for around $869USD.

How's that compare with the US? It's the best deal I could find here in Japan.

I was really getting tired of the noise from my old 6gb Travelstar and dont know how long it will last anyway. So today I went to Best Buy and just got back with a Seagate Momentus 80gb for $99.99 after Instant Savings (no mail-in rebate). Check the Sunday paper. Now THAT'S Gangsta!!!

Just finished transferring all my samples to the Seagate drive. This drive runs alot quicker, smoother, and quieter than that old 6gb Travelstar. Samples audition so much quicker now.

I was wondering if the mpc1000 can use any ram such as computer ram. I read somewhere that they only use a special type of ram, is that true? And for the SD Flash card, what's it used for? can you edit samples on cooledit and transfer them too the transflash itself, instead of recording it striaght from the 1000 it self. And for the extra drums, where do people buy drums/hi hats at? Sorry for all the questions, i'm still new at the game.Thanks ya'll

The MPC can use a certain type of laptop RAM - check the first couple of posts in this thread for which type.

It's a compact flash card, not 'SD' - that's a different format. And yes, you can use it to transfer .wav files (16 bit, 44.1kHz) samples from a PC to the MPC.

mpc-samples.com, from the folks who run this forum sells samples. Other than that, google it or try to sample your own from records/CDs etc.

i want a quiet cool drive with 30 - 40gb. any spontanious recommendations? i'm overwhelmed by the large number of possibilties...
