iomega zip cable question

ok i've been reading for solutions and from what i've been reading I think i've put the problem together. I was just wondering if anyone could verify this for me.

My iomega 100 zip drive has 2 parallel ports on the back. My cable is parallel on one end SCSI on the other. I thought this would work. Does the zip drive have to have a scsi connection on the back of it? Because now when I try to load my drive it just says "waiting" and freezes.

I had the same problem and it was the wrong kind of drive, it needs to have a small switch between the two jacks:

this terminates the SCSI chain otherwise it keeps searching for more devices or something.

Combo parallel /scsi drives won't work.

SCSI only drive is what you need.

I got it to work finally. Now i'm having trouble getting my disk to recognize in the MPC

for type it says "????????"

I've read in this forum about this issue. My characters are shorter than 8, my scsi cable is fine, no pins are bent. I put another zip disk in that had work stuff on it. (zip files, dat files, etc..) just for the the hell of it and it recognized the disk as "type=pc" and i could see the files. (This proves the connection is fine) But the disks with all my wavs on them it still recognizes as "type=?????" So then I formatted a disk on the MPC and now it recognizes it as "type=MPC2000xl" but I can't access the disk on my pc to put wavs on it. It's all real confusing to me. I'm a newbie. I feel i'm all around it though i'm just missing something. Any input is appreciated.

i think you have to format the disk in the computer as Fat? i may be wrong.....

but i thought if you formatted in the mpc it should be aight?

As smoove said format the disk on your pc as fat16, that way you can read/write to the disk on the computer as wel as on the mpc.

str8...i'll try this when i get home. I think I formatted at NTFS last night. Should I not ever format in the MPC? They wont read on the PC for some reason.

anyone know how to read zips in your pc that have been formatted in the MPC?

mine read fine I just pop them in and a window pops up recognizing it as a removable drive just like when you pop in a cd or whatever
what ver. of windows are you using and what type of drive are you using in the pc

I got WinXP Pro and a Iomega Zip 100. I've had a couple people tell me i should have no problem, but it's just not working for me... I don't get it

I have a scsi only drive with my mpc and bought a combo one and realised it wont' work with mpc..so I connected it to my pc and use it only to transfer sameples from my pc to the zip disk and then insert the disk into the zip drive connected to my mpc and load up the samples..Sometimes I have noticed that the zip drive connected to my pc hungs up when I try to transfer the samples, this could be due to the formating of the zip.
