Selling My First Beat I Need Help

hey I'm from cali and i have a beat that someone in ny is interested in buying. I spoke with him on the phone and i told him id be cool with $40 and production credit and my contact info on the project (cause i didnt know what i should be selling it at).

The song contains a sample of Air Supply's "Young Love". And the dude who wants to buy was saying that the hed have to clear the sample before using it so he would have to pay twice just to use the beat. I guess he was tryin to talk me down on the beat or something.

I wanted to know what do you think i should sell the beat for, and how i should send the beat...should i send it as an mp3 or the whole protools session?

its the first beat.

MP3s typically are not considered a pro format because of thier lower resolution. He'll want your Pro tools data or a stereo mix down to .WAV. Samples do need to be cleared. Perhaps you can re-record and replace your samples with your own material......

its cheaper because he doesnt have 2 pay twice for using the beat and then the sample...

thanks man i use a 1000, on that beat it was just the 1000 and my juno-d

one of my friends was telling me that i could copyright the beat, not the whole song because of the sample but how i arranged the sample and the drums. Have any of you copyrighted your music? do u know what forms i would use?

Ok... let me throw in my 2 cents. First, that beat is too hot to be selling for $40. I bet you could sell it for $300 minimum if you grinded around your city. I copyright my sampled tracks by sending in the whole beat without the sample. Sometimes I replay the sample and copyright that version, but most of the time I don't. Again I reiterate, do not sell that beat for $40. I'll buy it for $100 and resell it.

From what I've gathered if the guy is getting the beat for $40, it's a steal, and he shouldn't have any problem with paying to clear the sample. That's pretty much up to him and his company. I think. Or replace the sample with something original. If you copyright your beat, make sure you get them ROYALTY checks. You got check on publishing and all that too. "I think!"

You got skillz on tha mpc & I bet you spent a bit of time making that beat so $40 is like a slap in the face, but on the other hand if he gives you credits for the beat then that will get you known & you can build up from there.

Hey man, thats a good beat. Don't sell it. Hold out. $40 doesn't buy you much these days.

Is the person buying the beat famous? If so, maybe the credit on the track would work, but if not forget it.

Like its been said, get everything in writing.

Conceited <--- is the hottest track of the bunch. (just my opinion)
you souldn't be selling your work $40. like JiggSaw said before you should be selling your beats for atleast 300.
