I was'nt sure what subject this goes under.
I created a track and for some reason unkown to me I set the bpm at 145
now its a slow west coast or dirty south track. I want to know is there a way to cut the bpm in half to 72.5 around there and keep the virtual tempo the same. The problem is when I midi sync other track they move at 145 wich is way to fast for most tracks. I dont want to half to redo the whole track before I build on it.

try programming your drums in half -time to slow down the feel of the (drum) track to half-tempo, in your case 72.5 bpm.

in other words, program your 2 bar loop so it takes 4 bars to play thru once. each bar should have 32 steps at a resolution of 1/32 for a total of 64 steps.

*TIP* program kicks at 1/32 to get fast, double and triple kicks etc. if you use reason have one redrum rolling at 1/16 for your snares and basic hats. use another redrum rolling at 1/32 for your kicks and intricate hats. dont forget that when redrum rolls at 1/32 64 steps=2 bars.

HALF-TIME DRUM PROGRAMMING TUTORIAL

its hard (for me) to describe the method on the mpc but the principle remains the same, easier to describe the process in reason using the redrum. so here goes! try it and see.

works well when tempo above say 110bpm or so IMO. in most music the tempo is taken from the drums so dont worry too much about the other instruments for now, may need a little tweaking to sit right but not much, if at all. BTW, i do my drums first so theres no problem there.

1.on the redrum select 64 steps and 1/32 reolution
2.edit steps 1-16 and place a kick on the 1 and a snare on the 13.
3.edit steps 33-48 and do the same. k=1 s=13
4.place hi-hats on the 1, 5, 9 and 13 of steps 1-16, 17-32, 33-48 and 49-64 alternating velocities between soft and medium of course!
5. run the pattern while you look at the position counter!

i was gonna give up a dope pattern for this example, but nahda! just add some more kicks here and there (not too close together). i used RnB kit02 in the redrum by the way.

let me know what you think...works for me
