it shows just how much they slack. they could be providing consumers with all types of breakthrough software in OS's but insist on cutting corners. This new programmer has basically pulled their card and made 2500 users look stupid in a sense. Now if would only put in more effects and some 2500 ONLY features that can't be duplicated in the 1000---everything would be fine.

It is frustrating to spend soo much on a machine when I personally expected more from it & Akai. I knew going in that the 2500 & 1000 were really close as far as features & I was cool with that. But once I get the thing home it doesn't work the way it should. It's a pain to have to try to save some special way or worry that after you make a song or beat that it might crash. I think it's a shame that a worldwide corp. can't put out a product that if fully functional. I understand stuff happens but it seems like even when they fix a prob something else goes wrong. I just hope they get their stuff together so we really won't need a third party os to make the thing work the way it should in the first place.

First...I never expected Akai to drop a new MPC that is completely bug free within the first year. Feel free to go back and read my earlier posts on the subject. Now once they do fix the OS, it will be a great machine that will be a mainstay in my production set-up.
However, nothing in the world would make me go out and buy an MPC 1000..ever. So enjoy your 1000 and quit trying to justify buying that cheap toy...or not. Personally, I don't care what Akai or a 3rd party adds to the 1000. I use an MPC 2500 (at the moment). It has no impact on what I do.
Antonym, I know you are bored. How many threads can you post on how to glue..now cement your MPC 1000s pads? Now you may be offering a repair service??? Excuse me for laughing
Again..why would I care if the MPC 1000 has the exact same OS as the 2500? I really don't care. Yes, I spent at least $600 more than you on my MPC. What's the big deal? I spent more than going to the club last week....but let me ease up off of you guys. I know you are broke kids that spend your newpaper route money to get your MPC. Enjoy it and what ever new feature may come your way...

Akai is a company that needs to make money, as opposed to an independent programmer doing his thing for his own amusement. That means they cannot equip any one device with every feature there is...cause people won't feel any intention in buying another, cheaper or more expensive, product in the product line.
Obviously it's more promising, marketing-wise, to offer a family of products instead of one box that can do it all. But that means you have to trade off features between the different products - including a potential future MPC4000 successor in our case.

Not 2500 users but AKAI, get your facts straight....what are we guilty of?, buying a product that got cloned ?
If you want a clone go for 3rd party os and 1k. If ya want real thing, 2500 is the way to go...

This thread is reminding me of arguing about which was better out of Genesis and Super Nintendo in high school (when Genesis was better, obviously).
Deep down, there was underlying jealousy and insecurity, so whenever there would be a new magazine article bigging up one system over than the other, someone would bring it to school in attempts at justifying their purchase and making them feel better about the system they had.
I could not imagine having those same sorts of arguments nowadays, because I'm f*cking grown.
Who gives a sh*t?
Personally, I say good for MPC 1000 users. It's given you more options in your music making. If you're talented, which from what I've listened of your stuff, you are, Antonym, it may marginally help you create music. If you're wack, you'll still be wack.
Going onto a 2500 forum to, with very thinly-veiled subtlety, tell everyone there that their system is stupid because your little MPC1000 now does everything theirs does, does nothing but show that you are obviously insecure about whether you made the right choice in buying it or not.
At the same time, if you own a 2500 and really give a f*ck about this, you are equally insecure and should not have bought one in the first place. Sell it, buy a 1000, stop crying and make some f*cking music.

thats what I was thinking.......
everybody who wanted and could afford a 2500 got one, this 3rd party os is no big deal especially when this new os does nothing spectacular that still cant be done on the 2500 one way or another
if you had a little less dough and went for the 1000 they should be glad that their machine now has some of the features that they whined about getting that the 2500 had
I use my mpc to make music not to argue about which is better

insecure? get your facts straight homie
i'm simply telling the people they might just be next on the gift list
the only insecurities to be found are in the replies posted
new functions aren't high on my list, it's more the bug fixes that get me, and only the bug fixes that i expected to be of interest to the 2500 users
so jahrome, let me get it straight - if a 3rd party os was developed for the 2500 w/ no bugs, you wouldn't use it?

you guys are turning this into a 1000 vs 2500 post
which it is not
this is regarding bug fixes, which we the 1000 users need - which you the 2500 users are in SORE need of. not belittling it, because as i've said before, all samplers with os's have much room for functional improvement - and the 2500 is at the top of the list right now.
but shoot if you aren't interested in bug fixes i guess i shouldn't have bothered

I personally am not all that eager to get the minor bugs that dont really effect me fixed, of course it will be a plus when they are but,
seeing as it does not hinder my music, I've made a bunch of beats since having my 2500 and maybe lost one but thats only because I forgot to save after I added more to a beat
all 1000 users should jump up and down for joy because of this 3rd party os
but keep in mind if something goes wrong your WARRANTY is probably shot, but hopefully it wont

probably true about the warranty - although you can always go back
but yo my warranty was up about a year ago, plus i painted the shit out of my mpc haha so you know
most 1000 users are def jumping for joy. something tells me you guys will be getting the good fortune soon too. if you're REALLY lucky, the 2500 has a better processor/some other yet-unused ports on the inside which have room for expansion in the future. has anyone taken pics of the inside like stereoroid did with the 1000?
they could turn the 2500 into the new 4000 soooo easily with a reallllly kickass os and maybe an effects plugin or something.

The grid edit doesn't look as nicely implemented as the Akai OS. Maybe this will be fixed for final release.
The only thing that will piss me off about this OS is the amount of retarded comments that will come from 1000 users about how the 2500 is now pointless etc etc. Haven't seen any yet but they are inevitable! I think it's good for 1000 owners to have these features but i still wouldnt buy one.
This 3rd party business could really give Akai a kick up the ass and hopefully they will improve theirs even more.

exactly ^
i wager itll end up better for 2500 users than 1000 users
also
no matter how many great features are added on the 1000
it still has fewer midi outs/audio outs, so if you need those you're screwed
no dvd burner (if you need it, i mean some people might)
and the first generation 1ks require modding for the pads to be worth a plugged nickel
any one man bragging about how his piece of gear is better than another's (that includes 2500 loyalists) is a child who needs to stop talking down to people who are probably twice his skill level.
