i'v always enjoyed a good dr. john tune, but for the most part i was always aware of his more pop stuff. Then a friend of mine got "gris gris", and i was blown away, far from pop, and very deep shyt. I've been looking for it ever since, with no luck. Then yesterday i stumbled upon "babylon". While it is no "gris gris", it's still pretty ill. In fact i made what is probably one of my best beats with a sample from it last night.

My question: Do you guys know of any other artists that did this type of shizz? Not looking for that straight forward new orleans funk/soul, but darker, deeper "voodoo" music. Anyone with info, thanks in advance.

that gris-gris album was a one of a kind-
he never went there again-
and i have never heard anyone else go into that abyss.....
it was one of those psych-whatever trips with candles and incense
and hopefully someone special on yer acid trip---
the underground stations back in the day used to play that a lot-
but mac needed money for dope,so he went for the mersh sound after that--
sad,really-\
