How to get that talkbox effect

Just wonderin what I need to buy to get that Zapp,California love sound? . At guitar center they had 2 things, a korg keyboard with a vocoder 2000$ and a guitar talkbox 200& are there any computer programs that comes with a vocoder, my boy all he like are those west coast zapp chicano beats with that wah wah wah funky bass so im tryin as best as I can to compose stuff like that without sampling

Not sure about the artists you are referring to but a Hiel Talkbox and a guitar is the classic combo.....Vocoders are a whole different animal.....

PS...When I say classic think Peter Frampton or Joe Walsh....
