Tried that. It didn't work.

This update is just amazing. My hat goes off to this guy, and my money will be going his way once he finishes this OS. I hope Akai recognize this as a positive thing for their machine, and leave the guy alone. Or hire him and let him use his expertise for the good of their customers.

I'm extremely impressed by the work that he's done. The new modes (particularly mode '11' for program construction) are great, and the small touches, such as updates to the load screen and the new way of setting an autoload folder will make a big positive difference to my workflow.

As for tracks 61-64 for direct record, my guess would be that he figured he'd put the direct record tracks at the 'far end' of the track numbers so that they're out of the way of where you're commonly adding your drum/MIDI tracks while building a sequence.

Should I just install this and skip the 2.1 akai version?

is there a way to layer your sounds using mode 11?

i have still got to try this os, 2 questions:
does it records track mutes?
do i have still to unplug usb to load samples from pc?
please answer and say yes!!!!

has this TempleOS fixed everything that was ever wrong with anything the 1k ever? i think its 1k time for me, lets check the list:

had the tiniest of plays with it and i have to say the grid edit is so well realised. Im really impressed because it easily could have been poor.

The speed and ease of editing to make a number of slightly different sequences is just stunning with this. Even more impressively it works to write in too... yes i know some people will get snotty at the very idea but this on its own makes really makes the 1k peerless imo.

The zoning is ok i suppose but i could happily lose that. It still requires a bit of editing and the 1k already had a couple of easy and quick ways to slice. Id rather have seen it stick with equal zone slices but allow start end point editing with the q link sliders as in normal edit mode.

The little touches in organisation and the way things are presented...also wonderful and much more usable. There is such a noticable difference in all that which may be the same as the 2500 for all i know but seems to be to be made by someone who has actualy used the 1k and not akai themselves who seem never to have touched one in anger... some of the ways even os2.1 worked in use made wonder...

Ill join nym and others in saying i want to bear this japanese guys children. Its like hes given me a 2500 without stealing the little space and money i have here.

hello ! i've just tried that unofficial OS. i was surprised how basic is the grid edit mode ! (compared to the 2500) i guess it would be improve. the load/save/usb function is great. nevertheless, the slice function acts so strange (as you said it doesn't chop equally anymore) and the worst is that i had a "can't execute" message when i was trying to chop in 2 a kick or a bass. i'm sorry i am not as enthusiastic as all of you guys.

i don't want the OS to change the world but just starting at the end when entering trim mode or "lock" the program in a track when entering and editing in program mode or pressing overdub would be small but great changes in my opinion !

while this grid edit is great, the 2500 grid edit is better - not in layout, but in 1 function. the 2500 lets you select multiple notes in a row/column or arbitrarily and move them/edit them accordingly. it's like shift timing within grid edit.

the 3.0 version does the same thing, but only one at a time. NO COMPLAINTS, it'll get her done, but still.

mark my words - something will come along which will make the 2500 better than the 1k with 3.0. whether or not you need it is a different story.
akai will see this happening and get on the 2500 bit on the double.

meanwhile, this is nothing but good for us regardless of what they do for the 2500...who would EVER HAVE THOUGHT that a machine that was only good for basic to complex wav sequencing originally would grow into its own like this? it's truly amazing. it will be a classic, but an underground classic. the lasting resentment toward the 1000 will last. not everyone will hear about 3.0 - it'll be like a forum secret. i know plenty of 1000 users who never even knew about 2.1 til i told em. you know? some people just don't check into their machines after purchasing them.

3.0 has bugs. however, it's incredibly workable and promising.

nym is that 1 change the only difference in grid edit? As far as use goes anyway im not worried about cosmetic differences obviously.

There are lots of little suggestions id like to throw out there for open source os (as im sure you ve all got too) but as has been said elsewhere its a bit early for that yet.

The main exciting thing for me is that its happening at all. I know of no other 3rd party os for any music gear. Correct me if anyone knows im wrong because im very interested ........

one question that occurs to me. Is this going to start happening to other bits of gear now that they re all so much more pc like than bespoke or is this all just down to akai tieing one hand and leg behind the 1ks back so it would sit down and behave in their range?

Will be keenly watching to see what happens with the 2500, but this makes what was once a very sound in sound out bit of kit much more interesting.

ps. just one thing in terms of suggestions i cant keep quiet about... pitch mod envelopes. PLEASE!

i´m sorry but no it doesn´t.
i used the mpc2500 manual but it didn´t work with os3.
