MPC2000 sound banks.

Hi there all,

I have a standard mpc2000 with 32 meg Ram and SCSI drive. When I load up to two drum kits, it only takes like 20 meg of ram, when I try to load a third drum kit that only has 8 meg of data, mpc says that the max number of samples are exceeded or something.. I dont' understand what is going on, I am assuming that mpc has location for a limited "number" of samples you could load, I thought having 32 meg of Ram you could load up to 32 meg of samples, would that be the case with MPC1000 with 128 meg of ram, ? Could anyone shine some light on this issue.

The MPC can hold 32MB of sounds (obviously ram-permitting) and/or up to 256 sounds. You must have ALOT of small files?

It could be that your ram isn’t functioning properly. How much ram does it say you have installed? (Sample mode, press Open Window)

I’m assuming the error message comes up every time?

I don’t get it. Are you saying you think that once you load the third kit it should total 28MB and therefore leave you with 4MB free? If so, then again, it could be a problem with your ram.

Also, if I understand that right, 20MB for two drum kits is ALOT... Maybe you are actually loading 256 sounds before filling the ram...

Either way, it shouldn't be too hard for you to figure out.

well the thing is that if I load three kids it should only load 192 sounds and it should leave another 64 free spots, my third drum kid doesn't have many samples and also most of the sound in drum kit 1 is already including in drumkit2 meaning that it won't have to load the same samples twice, it looks like the sampler wont allow me to load more than 128 samples, I am not sure if it is the ram or what. Mpc indicates 32 meg of ram

I'm not sure what your problem is exactly but i just wanted to ask why are you trying to load over 126 drum sounds?Don't take offense,i'm just curious.

If you have 1 big 32mb sample you will not be able to load anymore samples.

Whichever limit you hit first, that's it. No more samples are loading into your machine.

the reason I wanna load 3 programs at once is that in some gigs we do a few songs that uses different drumkits and different samples, loading it live on stage while people are waiting on the dance floor isn't a good thing, specially when it take ages for the drum kits to load up and replace the other ones in the memory. I believe MPC2000 cannot load more than 128 sounds in the memory, maybe 2000XL and MPC1000 can load up to 256 samples.

You're absolutely right man. I just checked the manual. I didn't even think there could be a difference between the models so it was my mistake.

You could use another sampler with your MPC, though that wouldn't be ideal for gigs. You can always upgrade

that is cool bro, I guess i might need to upgrade to a 1000, its more compact, and can the memory can be upgraded a lot more, the only issue might be trying to convert mpc2000 programs to 1000, cuz I spend a bit of time mapping the samples, setting different parameters and etc. Plz let me know how easy is it to convert from 2000 to 1000.

2000 pgms should load up fine, only the pad assignments will be the same, the param settings and that stuff like that will be lost.

(from what I've read MANY times from many people in the 1k forum)


2000 program changes (done before live stage time) in step edit will have to be done to change from program to program. Because can only be 1 active program on the pads at a time but more in memory (use program changes in sequences for those if you are going live with them)

just an idea, cause i was thinking about this problem a little while ago, but you could get something like a looping pedal that has midi... or a kaos pad and put in one of the samples you're using off the mpc, and while you load up different drum kits you could screw around with the sample so the crowd doesn't get to restless.... maybe. i'm sure there are cheaper alternatives than to buy a new sampler is all i'm saying. like while its loading take a mic and start doing your standup routine. that'd be pretty funny.
