Here's the deal. I bought my 1000 second hand. I went from using the 2000xl to the 1000. This is a major concern that I have just come across. Playing back a sample sounds fine. But when I slice the sample into regions, it lowers the quality of the sample. When I convert the regions to individ pads and say I tap pads 1-16 for a 2 bar seq, each pad hangs over a little with a little distortion. Also, when I record from my main outs into record mode, it lowers the quality as well.

Im hoping that this is a defect, and not something typical of the 1000.

I know we have alot of die hard 1000 supporters in here, but please set that aside and be truthful if you have these same problems so that I can make a desicion.

If your loyalty to the 1000 is that important and you dont want to post in this thread, then could you PM and let me know whats up.

Thanks in advance yall

That's a problem I haven't read about or seen yet.

Sounds bad.

Like bleeding over to the next slice? That could be fixed by putting the program in MONO mode or switch the pads to the same mute group.

The distortion in this case, is it in the part that "hangs over"? in that case it might be the release setting in slice mode that messes with you, it loops the last couple of samples of the slice to simulate a release tail. Usually it just sounds like shit, metallic and ringing. Switch the release parameter when you slice to zero and you wont have the bad sounding tail.

There is no real way of properly control the level of the resampled signal which make for either (and mostly) lower, bitraped or crancked up, distorted signal after resampling. This makes the resampling a really annoying and shitty and I never use it becuase of that.

The over all amplitude and quality loss you experience when slicing is nothing I´ve experienced.

can you post up a zip folder of the samples - the loop, unchopped, and the chopped pieces, and the pgm so i can look at them?

You might also wanna try with different Master level settings (Mode-> Other). I have mine set to -6 dB and that makes the resampled beat have the exact same level as when I just play the beat in sequence mode. I don't know why it's like this, it would have been more logical if Master level 0 dB gave the exact same level.

And the "resampling main outs gives a bad sound" is just svada. Maybe the summing algorithms ain't that good, but I have recorded me playing a simple kick. Then I took the recorded sound into Adobe Audition, chopped it perfectly and compared it to the original kick sound. They were absolutely the same. I even phase inverted one of them and played them back at the same time, and it resulted in absolutely silence. So I believe the resampling main outs function is a good alternative.

My apartment got flooded over the weekend due to the rain we got, and my PC got soaked. I think just the power supply went bad, but when I get the net back up and running I will PM you the zip. I'll post the original, untouched sample, then the PGM file with the chops.

Is that typical of the 1000? Is it supposed to automatically covert Stereo to Mono after conversion, or recording from the main outs?

That would be dumb.

All stereo samples that are sliced are coming out as mono samples, check the manual on that one. It lifts the left channel and trashes the right, so a chopped stereo sample might be percieved as lower quality as it´s only one of the original channels playing.
To keep the chopped samples in stereo, slice the main sample the way you wants it but use Extract under the Edit button while in slice mode to extract each slice.

Resampling does not automatically go mono.
