What's up,

I've been making beats on my computer using reason, sampling from vinyls for quite some time now...but I finally decided to move on to hardware. now, I'm thinking about getting a MPC 1000 w/ s950 combo for my setup. although I would love to have that "grimmy" 60 sound, since my productions have been based on softwares (editing and etc.), I think it'll be better for me to go with that route. has anyone actually tried this setup? I currently have around 2Gs to spend. Throw your 2 cents in!

Just get a 60 and a S950. You won't regret it and you'll have plenty of money left over.

What's the point of this? The 60 is way overpriced in the used market, cause of all the hype around it. And soundwise it's practically the same than the S950 if I'm not mistaken. I think you would be better off buying a sequencer to the S950 that has a few more possibilities, so the 1000 might be a good choice.

The 60 is cheap and really what hype surrounds it? As a sequencer it has more possiblities than a 1000...

Well it might differ between US and Europe. The prices on eBay over here go up to around 600$ for a fully loaded MPC60 in good condition. Whereas an S950 can be found for under 200$.

And the 60 sequencer can do more than the 1000's? :?
Can you give examples for that?

60 = 4 MIDI Outs 1000 = 2
60 = 64 MIDI Channels 1000 = 32
60 = 99 Tracks Per Sequence 1000 = 64
60 Sync Modes = MTC, MIDI Clock, FSK 24 and SMPTE 1000 = MIDI Clock

Okay, that's a pro if you really need it. Concerning the sequencer itself, I doubt it can do more than the 1000's, from what I see in the manual.

Still I think buying a 60 along with an S950 is not the best bang for your buck.

Bang for the buck??? Who knows, it depends on who's buying and he said that's the sound he's looking for. If you're looking for cheap and you're only going to sequence one module why not a $50 drum machine with a MIDI Out and a $100 S900. There won't be any room to grow though. There probably some advantage every MPC has over one another but 4 MIDI Outs definitely means twice the sequencing power of 2.

Yes, and my point was, he will get the sound with the S950 alone - at one third the price.

Also if the maximum note capacity is lower? :wink:

But let's not start to fight this out, it's just my opinion.

haha :lol:

I'm just sittin back enjoying this discussion.

Hm..I'm curious..
what's the point of gettin a s950 when an mpc 60 already has 12 bit sound to it? the only reason why I wanted a s950 along with the 1000 was to have the "sound" from s950 to use with 1000 which seems like it can be used with a computer via usb.

by the way, thank yall for postin.

It's just a different type of sampler with a similar sound to the MPC60 so they get along well together. You're a Reason man right? Think of the sampler of the MPC as a Redrum module. It only uses phrases, one shots, theres no looping, has limited filters and in the MPC60's case limited sample time (and no filters). Think of the sampler of the S950 as a NN-19 or NN-XT module. It has looping, timestretch, ASDR, a low pass filter and it helps to have the extra memory. The X vs Y arguments do get old though so I'll just say that both of these units are very easy to use and would be excellent instruments for entering the world of hardware.

That's exactly what I meant :)

But remember that the USB in the MPC1000 can only be used to transfer samples between your PC and the MPC, nothing else. Controlling it is still only possible via MIDI.

My advice, get an S950 first and play around with it, hooking it up to your PC via MIDI like a sound module. Then decide which sequencer to use with it.
