That's easy.
You have to push the big red button that says 'rec'.

and can you come round to show me where that button is?

I have not seen a better explanation than this:
http://leute.server.de/wilde/resample.html

or

You can read my messed up explanation of Re-sampling :P .

Your MPC samples at 44.1khz. That is 44100 samples a second. Like a 44100 dot-to-dot picture of your sound/sample. A very nice picture mind you.

*When you re-sample UP you are placing MORE dots into this picture, it doesn't necessarily make the picture any clearer/better, it just adds more dots along the ALREADY defined picture AND uses more memory.

*When you re-sample DOWN you are taking/snatching dots OUT off of the defined lines of the picture so the sound cannot be drawn EXACTLY as it originally was but it's still recognizable when played back. It WILL sound grittier/dirtier/grungy (many people love a subtle downsampled drum) than normal though.

It is not what you stated "to make a C4 note work over the whole keybord?".

Anyone here has more to add or even correct me on, please feel free.. out :P

The "big red button" is to record a sequence.

To sample is Shift+?, it's in the manual, look it up and go from there..

A yo, you are almost guaranteed to get grief AND/OR sarcasm from peeps when you ask a question that is answered in detail in the manual, cause it shows when you ask it. You haven't visited the manual and you are just asking. It really shows man seriously!!

If you visit the manual a FEW times then you wouldn't be asking that basic question cause you would have ran across it already. Even if you have read the manual you would have stated (even though there is no way we would know if you REALLY read it) it and said that "I have read page such and such but I still don't understand it". You would have a better chance at getting an answer cause actually it was answered in SO MANY previous posts. READ my whole post right here again and look at your MPC buttons cause I just gave you the answer.. Now, get to sampling and make hot ish lil homie.. :P :P

Resampling is usefull for saving memory with certain low frequency samples without losing much quality. To accurately reproduce a sound you have to sample at twice the frequency of the sample. For example if you have a pure sine wave at 100Hz you will need to sample at 200Hz to reconstruct this sine wave. This is known as nyquist sampling theory.

http://www.efunda.com/designstandards/s ... yquist.cfm

Because bass drums and other drums are usually low frequency you can get away with resampling them at lower rates hence save memory. You can also this resampling feature creatively, as reducing the sampling rate you will tend not to capture the higher harmonics of a sound. Try resampling a high hat and see what happens as you reduce the sampling rate.

Because the human ear can hear between 20 Hz and 22KHz also gives us an insight into why 44KHz is a common audio sampling rate (Due again to Nyquist sampling rate) In order to capture a 22KHz sound we need to sample at 2*22KHz = 44KHz which is what the mpc sampling rate is. We need to sample at this high frequency in order to capture things like hi hats and sounds with high frequency components in them.

this is why i love this board......don't sleep on PGK....i have a feeling he will be posting insightful info in the future.......
