1. Chop shop not included in Beta version, but is planned to be included in release version. (Note: I sent him a message about how people want both the old and new version of the slice function. I think this is his reply).

2. Next Beta version available July 2.

Nym just sent me the compiled list of bugs. I'm going to be in Tokyo until Sunday. I will try to translate and send to JJ when I get back.

---Good job guys, NYM...are your using the other thread for bugs to report to JJ?
---Cant wait to see that hes got in store for us...this new OS is pretty dope I must say...I love how there is no DECAY bug from the 2.01 OS (remember the echos youd get when you decay more than 90%?)
---As far as all this grid edit talk, I try to stay away from composing my drums on it. If anything when i play back I LISTEN...then instead of replaying the pattern i can conveniently go to the grid edit and shift over the parts that we not on time. I was sick of using the grid to edit from a year back while i was working on CUBASE SX...hell, i got so firken tired of using my mouse that i ended up buyin teh M-Audio Trigger Finger before i came across my little LAP SIZED DYNAMO...
---Lets face it, yall bought the MPC...utilize it, learn to play the parts...we never had grid edit before, how were yall doin it back then..hehe, no bad intentions towards anyone here, im just sayin USE YOUR EARS!

ok enough debate about the grid edit, people want this as editing tool and advanced programming if you want to call it that , as for the pads i use them on every drum track and love it but again grid edit is a tool to edit and program.

Nym can you add to ask JJ about the possibilities to get a similar or the same grid-edit as the 25k since we have the same CPU and memory on both machines i cant see why it should be a problem, the 1K,s grid is nice but i feel if he did it to that extent it really just needs to be tweaked to get it to 25k standards

also has anyone heard about recording pad mutes, i may have missed a post about it if there was.

try this for pad mutes..

when i want to record pad mutes on the 1k, i assign the sample on a pad...then when i want to mute it, i make the pad bside it cancel it out..

I have all my trak mutes on the same track as the sample which is gettin muted..

Just a though...but recording pad mutes for deum would woulk alot better...
Get that to us quick..!!

So are the 1k and 2.5k CPU's definately the same....it's just while all this has been going on there's that small sort of downer in the back of my mind. Im converned that this DOPE ASS O.S. is gonna get completed then a few weeks later once people start actually getting down with it properly were gonna hear a load of reports about it crashing or putting samples in wrong places etc cuz the CPU can't handle whats going on?

If someone could put my mind at ease on this then that would be great! I guess when it comes down to it, when the 1k is actually playing the song it isn't doing much more than say the ancient MPC 60 is doing at the same point. Any samples that are being used are going through minimal processing (i.e. tuning, filtering, couple of basic effects) and these are things that the 1k has done from the start. The added features that have been incorporated now dont really test the system when it's playing a song more just in the processing I guess.....and if it can do pitch shifting this other stuff isnt too strenuous.

Seems like ive answered my own fears there dont it?

i agree with your point; basically any new feature that is not 'real-time', like chopping etc., shouldn't be apt to tax the cpu or make it crash.

i think whether the os is buggy or not will depend purely on the skill of this programmer and how well the bug reports are taken into account.

also i do think the cpu's in 1k and 2.5k are the same, but i can't prove it :)

i can:

scroll down to the two large cpu pictures, and you will see they are the same. i think they have the same core and different ancilliaries, but they are bacically the same chip.

Yip no difference we too can have all the luxuaries the 25K has,and as for the system crashing im sure it will happen but as anything it will take time to get a system that has all the features with as little bugs as possable but i drive my mpc gently,,reserve that horsepower

:D

I really like how he made it so you can use a pad for tap tempo instead of that little plastic button.

i wonder if this guy is going to screw up Akai's pricing plans for the 2.5k in the long run...

obviously they could have already given us all the 2.5 features for 1k but they choose not to so they can charge more for the 2.5,,,,

but this new OS may challenge that strategy

Wouldn't have thought so. This sort of development is a very positive one for Akai and users of the two latest models. The MPC2.5K is still a great machine too.

Thanks to Akai for giving us a machine with plenty of headroom for development. Who'd have thought we'd end up with an internal HDD, time-stretch, etc, when they bought one at the time of it's original release?

Thanks to JJ for taking this further still and helping the MPC1K (as I've always said - best MPC pound for pound and future classic) to fulfill its potential.

I've always believed that the different price points for the 1K and 2.5K were to reflect the obvious differences in hardware: bigger machine, more outputs, CD option, bigger pads, tilt screen, etc. Under the hood, the two machines are pretty much the same in terms of potential OS functionality.

This is not about 1K versus 2.5K; most 1K users are pleased to see their machine starting to fulfill its potential and the 2.5K still offers everything that it did prior to JJs excellent - and much appreciated - work.

If news of JJs work is, ultimately, well publicised, there is the potential for lots of new MPC1000 users deciding that they want one. It's a win win situation for Akai and, as I said previously, a positive development for all parties.
