a stupid question

i know this is a stupid question, but here go

say i have an mpc 2000xl (which i dont)

exactly what else would i need to sample from a turntable? - using absolutely no computer

can you list the bare minimum of gear (like the names of actual equipment)
that i would need to sample

i know you need a preamp, but would i buy this as its own piece or would it be built into something? like the turntable, or a mixer?

sorry but im ignorant about sampling, trying to learn,

Buy a DJ mixer like a nu-mark or a stanton. You could also buy a phono pre amp.

The bare essenstials are ur MPC, the turntable and something to get the signal to Line level, like the preamp you mentioned.

A basic DJ Mixer would do it too, or you can get turntables that give a Line Out rather than Phono, although I don't know any specifics as I use a crappy old Belt Drive Soundlab The turntable doesn't have to be fantsatic, but you'll need a decent Cart & Styli to get the best out of your vinyl

If you already have turntables, or plan to get some, the mixer you use will do the job.

im sampling from my turntables like that also - line out from mixer to mpc - put me up on some straight cartridges & stylus'

i see imma haf to spend even MORE money..........i really didn't kno what i was gettin' into when i bought all this stuff.......yikes

Cop the Shure M447. All cartridges over $60 should be fine. The needles need about a week of use to break in. You can spend $1000 on some carts, but for what your doin keep it simple and cheap. Just don't get no $30 ones. Your shit will suffer.

i would also suggest either a multitrack recorder or a pc to record with, unless your happy making tapes

i got the aw16G - but that thing is hard as h#!! to figure out how to use........

Another stupid question. Exactly what effects are on the EFX board? Right now I use Sound Forge and Waves for effects and processing. Is it even worth getting?

Dam near every option that is on the EB16 is in SF. I use both (I got SF also) It doesn't sound exactly the same but nonetheless it's a REVERB in whatever program/hardware you use.

Is it worth it IMO, yes, but if your tryin to save money then don't get it ($300 in most places) and learn how to successfully integrate the SF effects into your production and you will be just fine. I just like the fact that I play with my effects right there on the MPC.

You can live without it but I'd rather live in harmony with mine..
