the D8B is definately dope. but its not really for beginners. i got it so that i wouldnt have to upgrade any time soon. i dont plan on needing a better mixer at home. very good for tracking and recording, emulates the mackie HUI to control your DAW.

im having little use of it at the moment due to a wordclock issue which im trying to sort out so i use it mainly for monitoring stuff.

i got 16 tracks coming out of cubase/ reason via ADAT into the D8B
MPC 8 analog outs going into the D8B
PK-6 main analog stereo outs going into the D8B
PK-6 sub outs going into the MPC record in for sampling

the EQ, compression, limiting and gating facilities are top notch as you,d expect from mackie and the interface is easy to use. the V5 software mixer interface is much better than the cubase mixer IMO.

i upgraded from an O1V to an O2R and now have the D8B. a logical progression in terms of available analog/ digital inputs, features, quality, reputation and size.

if you got £2000-£3000 to spend on a digital mixer, this one is highly recommended.

jst gotta get me the APOGEE WORDCLOCK CARD! (hard to find) and i'll be jiggy.....

How come the europeans always have the craziest studios with all the top gear, and TONS of it. And we always got the small MPC, Computer, Mixer, Turntable set ups hah.. do u guys notice that too. All the craziest studios i've seen on here are guys from zurvokly, sweden or w/e

i kinda noticed that too and that we generally have "tidier" looking home studios, but i also noticed that my set-up seems to be the only one i've seen here with no turntable, outboard rack modules, effects etc (yes i know i got the emu proteus and mo'phat in keyboard form- PK-6).

as long as it can make music, it'll do for now.....

Where can I hear some of your stuff?

good question. my boy DON P is up on myspace, so ima work on something to put out there as soon as possible.

still trying to find my "signature" sound, if you know what i mean.

us UK beatmakers are criticised too much for imitating the US production style. and where exactly are the origins of hip-hop and RnB?

I feel you on the signature sound. I'm tryin' to make good, classic hip-hop.
Stuff like Marley Marl used to do.

Let's just say hip-hop started in NY. Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn???
