Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but I been lurking for a bit.

I bought my mpc2500 about 3 months ago, and all of the sudden I turn it on tonight and the "mode" button wont function after working once or twice. After about 20 mins of trying to get it to work, When I hit "mode" and say "program", It takes me to the record screen, load screen , etc... everywhere else but the "program screen.

When I finally get to the "program" screen, the loaded samples flash and fade out and go all over the place. I don't hit the buttons hard or nothing, so I doubt I caused this.

I tried the factory reset, and also tried it out with every OS, but I get the same results.

Anybody had any other expierence like this, and or any ideas on what my next move should be?

I bought it new from Armen's in nyc if anyone is familiar with the place. Not sure if I should return it there or contact akai.

Man I had My 2000xl for 6 years and never had a problem. Starting to wonder if I made a dummy move.

I just sold my XL because it was acting up to get a 2500. I personally haven't had any problems(knock on wood). That sounds like a defective machine to me. If you went through and did a system restore and tried loading the OS' again thats all it could be. Did you get a warranty from where you bought it? Call them and see what they can do and if nothing else you can just send it to Akai and get it fixed or a new one.

I've had a similar problem where i hit a button in certain situations and it will just return me to the mainscreen. For example, the other day i was in trim mode and tapped in a numerical value on the keypad but when i hit enter it returned to the main screen

Thanks for the replies,

I spoke to Akai, and have to have it shipped in for servicing.

Now I'm beat for the shipping cost there, and time without my mpc2500 when I have some projects in the works.

I hate to make my first posts about compliants, but man....like all of you I paid a grip for this thing .

i've had problems with my mode button too. But mines doesn't send me to different screens... it does nothing sometimes. Like if i press mode+trim nothing happens it will stay on the main screen. But it hasn't done that in over a month so i guess i'm good for now.

When it did that, did the Mode button flash like it's supposed to? If it did, then maybe it's no problem with the Mode button, but rather with the Pads.

Yeah the mode button light was on but it wouldn't respond to any of the pads.

Doesn't make sense, why didn't you contact Armen instead of Akai?
D*mn thing is only 3 month in your possesion and Armen is an Akai dealer/service center.

The 1k, 2500, 500 are not built or designed like the older MPC or from the same materials.
Certain things were cost cuts, somethings were design changes.
People at one time felt the 2000/2000xl wasn't built like the60/3000.
Now they wish teh 2500 was built like the XL.
Just seems like Akai dropped the ball on the pads for the 1k and the pad area for the 2500.
Really crazy since that's the area that someone would be banging on.
