Wrong File!!

I spend my days dreading seeing that text... For some reason sometimes when I go to load programs that I have loaded up many times before I get a message saying "Wrong File!!" and basically that program is gone. This is beyond aggrevating and I'm wondering if there is either a way to fix this when it happens to a program, or if theres some way to prevent it from happening in the future because nothing gets me down more than to make a dope beat save it, go to load it up later and it not be there.

EDIT: I forgot to add, this is happening when saving/loading to the hard drive and I never make folders I just save the programs and seqeunces directly to the hard drive.

Has this not happened to anyone else? I'm starting to think it's a bad HD or something. I just tried to load up the bad programs in bluebox off my comp and get all kinds of errors. I just don't get how it can load up fine for a while and then all of a sudden stop working, I rarely overwrite programs so it's not that.

It's been a while since I came across this bug (and very seldom as well). So I can't recall exactly why this is happening. It's been a long day for me, so I'm not much help. However, if you do a forum search (make sure you enter it as "Wrong AND File" exactly as quoted) you will find more results. Hope that helps.

Thanks for looking, I just searched through the topics and most of them seem to be because someone put in the wrong type of sample format in, and the few others that did have the same problem as me didn't get a response either. One of them didn't even have a hard drive installed so i'm thinking it's possibly an OS bug, either that or the same thing that happened to my hard drive happened to his CF card. My programs worked fine many times before but then all of a sudden one time I turn the MPC on and there it is "Wrong File !!" for no god damn reason... really annoyed.

I'm guessing it's a bug as well, since it doesnt sound like a user error on your part. If you can't find any more info, look through the OS 3.0 Beta thread. On the site where it is, there should be a list of bugfixes you may want to read up on. I'm still trying to keep up with all the new beta releases.

I get that too!!! It says "File not Found" and I have to reload that drum kit. It just happend and I feel like throwing my 1k at the wall!!!! Somebody must have an answer.

Yes, I've had these problems and other mysterious happenings such as dissappearing folders etc..in the past. As other people have posted previously, I believe the best practice is to save the entire memory to a new folder after your nights work, then delete the previous folder. Never write over any folders, this may work for a couple of weeks , but eventually will lead to corruption of files. I had a dodgy sample I had to delete. Anyway try following the save to new folder method, I haven't had any probs lately.... touch wood!

I have the same problem with my mpc1k. It happens whith a couple of pgm files saved on my hd (toshiba mk4026gax 40gb) but it never happens when I save the pgms on the CF card. My provisionally solution to this is to save samples in hd and pgms in CF card and load them separately. It always happens with the same files, even when I overwrite them, so I think it´s an OS bug that involves HD partition or format, or maybe there are some bad sectors on the HD, who knows....

damnit, i have a hitachi (corrected!) 40gb too, and i experience 'wrong file' problems on my hdd. and by the way, the drive is noisy as hell. looks like i need to buy another one. damnit!

I had that wrong file message before....u sure ur not saving in the wrong format? 44khz 16 bit.......and "do not save extra info/metedata in the wave file"....

I wasn't getting WRONG FILE, but your symptoms sound similar to the ones I was getting.

how about everybody writes down which type of hdd is used in his mpc? so we can make sure it's not an incompability-problem.
as i said, i use a hitachi 40gb, os3 b16.
