That wasn't a full OS with all the standard MPC functions. I remember it had a WAV player and some other weird functions (possible for live use). But overall it was very basic.
So it's no surprise people returned to the original OS after experimenting with it.
This 3.0 on the other hand is a real alternative to Akai's OS.
i don't want nearly all my drums to have digtal 'echos' on their tails when i increase the decay time (Amp Env bug). So i'll stick with 3.0 for now.

Mr modnaR wrote:conspiracy theory:

i think Akai has assigned a team of programmers (the 'A'-team? ) to the 1k project, releasing betas left, right and centre, using Akai MPC Forums to find bugs and new feature suggestions. they claim they are a third party, and will therefore be charging $30 when the final release is done. however, when the final release IS done, Akai will release the renegade os (after having the gui altered to look more like their traditional format) and of course it will be free!! so they will be the apple of every 1k owner's eye again.

LMAO
I've been thinking the same thing all along!

bahahahahahah at numark

good to see you again, sparq
i'm still on the first beta of 3.0, loving it. fully functional, i've made a couple short beats on it already. the bugs are there, but it hasn't frozen on me or made me lose any work yet. so i'm happy. slice is manageable, you can simulate zone by slicing the transients and then combining all slices and just using divide divide divide til everything is in equal bits. works nice.

as for the danger, i'm not worried at all. i trust that these guys know what they're doing.

as for akai releasing another big update, bring it on. i'll be curious to see if it's called 3.0 or what haha. if it works better, i'll use it. if it doesn't, i won't. as of now i'm showing more alliegence to the AJJJ because they show greater response and feedback.

i got it while upgrading from 3 to 11...
i think bootlock may just be literally the mpc locking its boot process - so no os is loaded.

I tried twice, and saw no numbers....and my mpc runs fine...

By pad-ophiliac Wed Jul 05, 2006 8:03 pm
well i guess my machine is fuked then. when i re-installed 2.1 there was definitly a point where it said: flash writing 0/1083 and then the side with the zero increases until it reads 1083/1083. if you guys don't get the same shit after you press record, i would not recommend using 3.0 because it obviously alters the machine even after going back to 2.1
