After having my MPC2500 for a few months now, and laughing at the people who got the "System Test" bug (thinking that it couldn't happen to me), I turned on my MPC yesterday morning, and there it was......... "SYSTEM TEST." I guess it serves me right, though, haha. So I installed 1.21 today, and everything is fine now, however, I hear that there are a few issues with something about midi? I also read that a few people, after installing 1.21, installed 1.2 again to fix the midi problems. For those of you who upgraded to 1.21, did you guys keep that O.S., or did you downgrade back to 1.2 like a few of the others did?

Well i wasn't having any midi problems until last night.

I went to use the direct record feature to record some midi tracks into audio loops but for some reason it deleted the midi track from my Proteus!

It's been a while since i used the feature so i'm gonna have to read up on it again to see if i went wrong anywhere

Well, I downgraded to 1.1 just to get rid of the System Test Error and re-installed 1.2. Now after just transporting my MPC 2500 during my drive across country, I turn it on, and the System Test Error is back. I guess I will have to repeat the above steps again and this time install 1.21.

I lasted ages before i got this stupid error. And of course my Os on the memory card isn in the root directory.

So I'm going to go and buy a CF Card reader / usb adapter tomo so i can move the OS to the root. Hopefully thatll get me going.

I didn't realise that it stuffed the machine completely - what a beech.

Npw I have the System Test too.... But I can't fix it! My 1GB kingston CF makes the MPC say "Wrong card" and the original AKAI CF 32MB is not formatted in the MPC (because I used it in my SP-404 some time ago)... How the hell am I going to get the OS update into my MPC then?

Can't I format the card by holding a button while turning on or something?

A Multi-card drive are very in-expensive to add and many new PCs come with them installed. You PC will have the ability to read/write to any form of media. You will be prepared for any situation.

Do you have a multti-card drive or compact flash reader/writer on your PC? If so, you can format your Akai CF card on your PC. If not, you will need to get one or hook up with someone that does. You can also contact Akai to see if they will send you a loaner card.

To prevent headaches in the future, I am keeping my Akai CF card with the original OS just for emergencies. But with the new OS 1.21 installed, hopefully this problem is fixed to never return.

Yeah I do have a multicard reader, but when I format it (DOS-formatting/FAT32) it still does not work... MPC keeps saying "Wrong Card".
Think I have to take it back to the shop :(

Is FAT 32 the only option?

I think you might need to use FAT 16 for the card

Aha

OK, that might be my problem - as far as I know Mac's can't format to FAT16...

Ok, well it's not for definite. I just remember a while back that someone was saying how the limit for FAT 16 was 2gb, hence the limit of the CF card.

Anyone else that can do it for you?

I don't know if this helps or not..but after I got the System Test error, I tried reinstalling the OS using a 512MB CF card. It wouldn't work. I used smaller CF cards (32 MB and 16MB) and was able to re-install successfully.

I had the same problem when i got hit with the system test bug; it wouldn't read my kingston 512mb CF. do you have a local music store with a 2500 on display to format your original Akai CF card?

Jahrome-> I am using the AKAI 32MB CF card that came with my MPC.Problem is that I formatted it with my SP-404 some time ago. The 1GB Kingston CF I have doesn't work ether.

But thank you for your help :)

Sounds like you have a plan. I hope you get it up and running soon. Install the latest 1.21 OS so you won't have this dreaded problem again.
