getting my own style

i just started and i suck and cant do anything with this hand me down mpc. . . . but i figure id give it a shot can anyone help me with setting up a drum pattern and then showing me how to add samples im going for a real hip hop feel like im talking 93-97 kinda in the range of a tribe called quest, old hiero, common, brand nubian, fugees and those smooth erykah badu tracks. if you have any tips please help i have alot of visions i just need help figuring out this machine to get them to you
