sampling from tv?

srry if this has been asked, i tried searchin but couldnt find a direct answer about this, i was wonderin how someone would go about sampling sumthin from tv. do you just set up a mic, put it next to the tv and hope for the best? if sumone could explain the process id appreciate it, thanks...

If you have a fairly new VCR you probably have a pair of RCA audio out, otherwise you could buy or mod a scart plug to tap the audio via that. Just tune in the channel you´d like to sample from on the VCR and start recording the output.
New TV´s might have scart connections too where you can tap the signal.

i dont have a vcr, but i do have tv that's a couple years old, do i just plug the rca jacks into the back of the tv (pretty sure theres hookups there)?, if i have to tho i can buy a vcr cuz i wanna try this, plus then i can bust out sum old cassettes and watch them shits after im done...

i have an audio in/out to audio in cable. Plug the red/white connectors to the back of the tv and the audio in to the "mic in" on your sound card. Works fine for me. I can't find a picture of the cable, so I hope you understant what i'm talking about.

Everything with an audio output can be sampled, it´s just a matter of finding the right connections and pay attention to possible differences in output level. Don´t be afraid to try, there´s great stuff everywhere to make music out of.

i probably should have read the other replies before i post this one, but you can use an RCA -> 1/4" cable. run it to your mixer or sampler and do your thing

thats true, thanks for the help guys, iv been tryin to find an answer to this for a while, i wont be usin a computer just yet tho, i will only be using the 2500 by it self (gettin it in a week) so would i just plug the cord in the back of that instead of a sound card?

can you just run the RCA audio outputs through a receiver and then run the receiver output to your MPC?

yea. also, the cable that dergillz posted would work if your recording into something with an 1/8" plug (i.e. your computer soundcard input), but if your plugging directly into your mpc or even a mixer, you'll need one end to be 1/4" (the fat plug).

you're all set man. shouldnt cost more then $6 at radio shack
