Alesis firewire mixer/mpc1k

Does anyone know about this mixer? Because I wanna use this as audio intercae and mixer I have a Fantom XR? After I record the midi notes onto the mpc, how do I set up so that audio gets recorded? From that mixer. I don't know if I should get the 8 or 12 inputs. But if I get 8 will it allow me to track 8? 4 from the mpc and 2 from the Fantom XR? And will I go about do direct recording on a program like cubase or pro tools instead of doing it on the mpc?

you can use the mixer as a soundcard... connect the mpc to a channel on the mixer... open cubase, open vst connections, and make sure everything is set up correctly... as dumb as this sounds, make sure you have the 'record' button enabled on the track(s) you wish to record to... click the record button on the transport bar, and do ya thing playa...
