Q, I think you are going to be happy with the 1k. It has been evolving so much in it's few years of life that it really is an amazing little box.

Here are a few suggestions to get you going.
1. Read the Manual
2. Start with os 2.1 and get comfortable with working on it.
3. When you have the money, get and work through the Beat Making on the MPC1000 book, it's worth it.
4. When you get more money, buy the HDM10 kit and a decent capacity harddrive.
5. When it's finished, buy a copy of os 3.0 and learn those new features.
6. After you've learned how to operate the machine and make a sequence set or song okay, then start to experiment with sampling/sequencing/controlling midi devices/etc. Push the envelope and try out new and weird things.
7. Have fun!

Welcome!! There are some very nice people here, and some nasty ones too, don't mind the nasty ones! Exactly what kind of chips are you talking about? I have never seen anyone talking about chips for their 1k on here, maybe everyone can learn soemthing from you! You should share your knowledge!

I can't tell if the "chips" comment was sarcasm or commitment to charachter Mrs. Stewart, but either way it was funny.

Now go bake me some cookies!':D'
