man, ill admit, Im not to well versed on the mpc. I usually filter a sample on Fruity loops then take it to the 1000. Can someone please tell me if they filter a sample and if the filtering sounds really filtered. I like to take the highs out, keep the lows is, u know that muddy sound where u hear it but its heavily filtered. If someone can help me I would apprecaite it. Im trying ot use the mpc as a true stand alone machine. Please help. I did a search and didnt see this posted yet so sorry if its alrady posted. This is my first message.

thank you

Go To Program...Filter and you have 2 available filters you can chain . For the muddy sound you would drop the Frequency on a Low Pass and raise up the resonance until it sounds right. You can set a filter up on a pad and then use the slider function to filter the sound in real time. ( Use OS 2 if you have not downloaded it yet).

First of all, search your manual from cover to cover a few times. No offense, but if you can´t find the filters on this one there´s no way that you´ll be able to use the MPC 1000 by itself in an effective way unless you learn it from the base and up, and the manual is your guide to that.

I guess your comment is ironic, and if I´m wrong forgive the old testament like tone of this; but when did hand holding or a I-ask-you-point mentality and pedagogy become more helpful than the tip of learning by yourself from the basic levels and upwards?

If you want a independent unit for your production you´ll also need to learn it thoroughly so you can master it independently. That means at least one cover to cover reading of the manual, and the manual nearby as aid in finding or trying out specific functions during your first runs with the machine.

heh...i think he was being sincere. i think.

as for your old testament tone
rock on, i'm somewhat cool with that
cuz the new testament's only for hand holders anyway

Feel free to ask me any questions , I don't grill people for asking questions on the forum as that is what it is there for , not to assume everybody should have a manual PDF file embedded in their brain. I have used my MPC 's all without manuals and mabey had to ask 5 questions on the forum as they are very user friendly once you get the gist of how it works in comparison to other gear you are used to.

MPZ60, it´s a nice gesture and all, and the forums are here to get tips, troubles sorted out and new views to your hardware and production. I can feel that and I truly love these boards and some of the people posting here.

What I can´t feel is that the forums should turn into an online manual as it´ll add unwanted (as in not the good kind) noise and clutter the enviroment here making it hard to find the tips, the solution to hardware or OS troubles or the "aha!" moments when someone shares a nice move or odd solution to a even odder occurence.

Where to find your editing parameters, instructions how to sample, whether or not I should pour beer all over my unit or whatever, all that is found in the manual. Nicely indexed and availiable in both physical and digital formats. This is the main resource, after your fingers and eyes, to get to know your machinery.
What you do with the parameters, how you implement functions and find solutions to make the technology work in a musical frame, that´s where the forums kick in and bring the goodies to the table.

You learn from reading up on stuff, try it out for yourself, retry when failing, read up on other peoples experiences and solutions.

And I don´t assume people should have the manual memorized, but I assume that people have a copy of the manual they pick up when they run into a dead end or don´t find a specific parameter. And if they don´t have a hard copy they can download the PDF and consult that before they post the question on the forums.

As long as the search function is unsatisfactory I think there need to be a stricter sanitation on the non Off Topic forums than there is today.

MPZ60: you are clearly the type of person who learns how to use equipment by trial and error, you should realise that this is the best way to learn something so you can subsequently use said equipment intuitively. don't encourage the heel yappers.

If you wanna question if I get into my machines, peep some of my tracks at:

www.myspace.com/djragz

I just got the MPC 1000 cause I heard some good things about it, so Im trying to switch over from my asr, and Im used to doing things a little different. I know its a basic question, but I was frustrated at the time of the question, and having to explain why Im curious is insane for a forum. Im sorry man, thats just not cool at all.

peace to those who helped me out...........much apprecaited.

I love my new signature!

J-Dilla didn't read the manual, RZA didn't read the manual, Premier didn't read the manual.
