Rozzer, so you did try to get your MPC w/ OS 1.21 to sync to SX3? SX3 amd Nuendo 3 are practically identical so you should be able to set the MPC as the master and sync it to SX3.

I have to add that MIDI clock and MMC seem to work just fine when the MPC is set to master or slave.

I did try yes, and I couldn't get the MTC to work either way (as master OR slave). I suspect Nuendo and Cubase are the same, but perhaps the problem is with a certain setup on the MPC.

protools will sync with my 2500 as slave its just not as tight as my 2000xl used to be when I synced it

the diff. is hardly audible but it does make a lil difference

Fist..I agree that the sync is not as tight as the XL or 3000. There is a slight delay at the beginning, but I think I will be able to work around that. Are you using MTC, MIDI Clock, or MMC?

Rozzer, the MPC is pretty straight forward when it comes to syncing. Are you sure that you have the right boxes checked in Cubase...and of course, are the MIDI connections done correctly?

Oh yes totally. I can sync no problems (MTC) with OS 1.2, but not at all with 1.21 (as confirmed by several people in this thread). I'm going to retry 1.21 tonight, so I'll confirm then.

With OS 1.21 ?

i had an early thread about syncing with pro tools using midi beat clock and my mpc always being early (before the downbeat). just tried tracking a beat in digital performer using midi beat clock and had the exact same issue. switched back to os 1.1 and it's working fine.

Just to confirm the settings, I go into sync setup and click the following. Is this right?

Image

Then in the MPC

I've got Sync Out C (Master) as the midi in of the interface connects to midi out C
Mode: MTC
Frame rate: 25
Send MMC: Off

Cubase picks up something as when i press start on the MPC it says that the fram rate of 25 has been detected and asks if i want to change Cubase to match.

Edit: I've got it to work now but seems to take a while to sync. I press play on the MPC and the recording starts about 3 seconds after. Is this why it's suggested that you leave a blank bar at the start of the sequence?

To be honest i find this quite annoying! I might just stick with the MPC as slave

OK, I just reloaded 1.21.... here's what I found:

MTC sync works when the 2500 is the master (so I was wrong earlier when I said it wouldn't work either way).

However. when I try to use the 2500 as a slave (using MTC sent from Cubase) the 2500 seems to lock up, and the transport controls (play / play start) stop working (even after Cubase is stopped, and Sync options are removed in the 2500). It doesn't sync at all. Infact, it won't play at all until you reboot. You can do everything else, such as change Modes, edit samples etc, just just can't play anything!

So, in my experience with OS 1.21: MTC Sync OUT - working fine, MTC sync IN - very broken.

Spirez, can you get the MPC to work as a SLAVE using MTC only (no MMC or MIDI clock)? And if so, which OS?

Yes. Its pretty much like that with MTC regardless of what gear you are using. Your Cubase settings are fine.

I'm curious though, are you able to sync the MPC to Cubase (ie MPC is the slave) using 1.21 ?

Just read the thread properly, lol.

So i'll confirm that i CAN have the MPC as master with MTC.

I CANNOT slave the MPC to Cubase with MTC.

Just a question, what's the advantage of slaving with MTC rather than Midi clock?

I was using midi clock a fair bit as that's what we had to put up with before 1.2

MTC is based on absolute time, days, hours, minutes, seconds, so syncing tends to be tighter. Midi clock is essentially just a bunch of blips with some tempo info.

So now I'm curious to know if ANYONE can actually use the 2500 as an MTC slave.

I cannot use the MPC as an MTC Slave using OS 1.21. I am not even thinking about re-installing OS 1.2 to check this.

It works fine in 1.20, so Akai definately broke it :?

Cool, thanks for the tip.

So, which is best, MPC as slave or master?

Is one tighter than the other?
