Multiple Filters Question

Ok, I know the filters aren't the best on the mpc and most of the mixing/filters and whatnot I do in Protools. Here is my question though. Is it possible to use multiple filters? What I mean is, there is FX 1 and FX 2. So, say I have compression on FX1 and I got that going to a kick drum, Then I have reverb on FX2 and I have my snare on that.... Since the 2 FX channels now have a Compressor and a Reverb, what would happen if I want to use like a bit cruncher on bass or something? I hope I am explaining this clearly. Thanks

you are restricted to two fx units plus one master effect. you can resample if you want to use more than that. or you could wait till you get to the tracking out stage (if you do that) and use effects on your computer or external effects units.

yeah, thats what i thought. thanks for verifying it for me. is the 1000 the only mpc that restricts like that?

I think the 4k can do more ... check akaipro.com to be certain.

really the 4k is the only mpc that wasn't designed to be a drum sampler. all the rest were, and, as such, weren't designed to be doing full productions in one box. if i were you i'd wait till tracking out anyway, you can get far better effects, far cheaper by using a computer.

I´m having trouble getting the concept of your question, the filters are independent of the Effects section.
Filters are assigned to each pad in Program mode, and there are two independent filters with HPF/BPF/LPF options and the option of linking them. That are your filters, and then you have the Effects section.

i got what he meant because my friend used to make the same mistake this guy makes. when he says filters, he means effects.

Maybe a photoshop user, a couple of my photoshop using music friends call effects filters. Not quite sure why some people here call Envelopes filters though ... pot users ?

remember that the 1000 gives you 20 different effects settings.

how do you apply the different settings though? i havent been able to figure it out. say i have a compressed kick drum at 1 setting, then i want to compress a snare, hi hat and bass at different settings, how do you apply those 4 different setting to 4 seperate instruments if there are only 2 effects channels ( not counting the main out )


p.s. yes, i am an avid photoshop user which is why i refer to effects as filters.... sorry for he confusion, but you could still understand what I was talking about.

the reason i ask all this is that i like having the best possible mix i can on the mpc directly before taking it into protools where i do all the final touches and effects/filters before sending it all off to me mastered.

You can switch between the different Effect sets, each one offers you two seperate effects, for example EFX 1 Comp, EFX 2 Bit grunger, but you can´t use several Effect sets at the same time.

It´s usable if you like to have different effects during different parts of the songs, for example one setup of two effects during the verses and another setup with two different effects during the chorus. You can switch between them but not use more than two effects at the same time.

Page 87 - 88 of the PDF manual for OS 2.10. It covers what the Effect sets do, how you manage them and points to the Step Edit chapter to help you implement it in a track. What´s wrong with that? What more do you need to know?
