Hey what's up forum.. I have been making beats for a while and I am trying to expand my tools a little bit, can someone recommend any good songs to practice sampling from. I know there are tons of 70's soul records out there, but what I am talking about, is songs that I can practice sampling and reference it to tracks that were sampled by established producers in the industry. I want to do this so that I can get a feel for how they did it, where they chopped, what synth sounds they laid on top of it, you know just get down the basic formula and go from there!

Thanks! :o

Off the top of my head...

Jay-Z - U don't know (bobby byrd - i'm not to blame) prod just blaze.
Kanye West - Touch the sky (curtis mayfield - move on up) prod just blaze.
Kanye West - Through the wire (chaka khan - through the fire) prod by kanye west.

My favorite one was re-doing Jay-Z's H to the Izzo (Jackson 5 - I want you back) prod kanye west. I had fun trying to figure that one out. It was a bit more obscure.

There are A LOT MORE. I'm sure everyone else will add more to the list.

the pattern is from dre's xxplosive. in fact, if you listen to a lot of kanye's songs, that's how he programs A LOT of his drums. kick, hat, snare; kick, hat, kick, snare.
