updated to OS 2.1, mpc died (RESOLVED)

I really hope someone can help me. Here's what I've done so far:

1. Copied the 2.1 Akai OS onto the Akai flash card that comes with the MPC1000. Copied it through the MPC1000 by connecting to the USB port as advised in the update guide.
2. Turned on the MPC1000 while holding down "window." When prompted I pressed "Rec" to flash the new OS.
3. It upgraded the OS succesfully and rebooted.
4. The screen came up blank.
5. The screen stayed blank.
I can press buttons and they light up and flash and everything, but there's nothing going on inside.

6. Tried flashing it again. Held down the window key while starting up. It says it's running the newer 2.1 OS. Flashed it again anyway.
7. Still can't get it to start. The screen just stays blank.

What have I done wrong? Is there some obvious step I've missed? I feel like I've just ruined this MPC and I'm kind of freaked out about it

it's your contrast... a few people had this same problem.... after you boot up, hold down shift and turn the data wheel to adjust contrast.

Thank you! Adjusting the contrast fixed the display.

I'm still having problems though. Pressing play or record, even into a new empty sequence, all I get is a buzzing sound and I can't hear any of the samples. I also can't access the CF anymore on my PC. It just says "insert a disc" and won't open the drive. Something else I can do about these problems too?

Duh... should have read the manual. Fired it up while holding down "erase" and now everything's back to normal.
