northern soul?

ok i have seen in the last few yrs, and more in the last yr, about this genre northern soul. whats the deal with it why is it so HOT why does it cost so much, i know the beats are dope and everything ,but it just sounds like a B-SIDE to an oldie but goodie soul record.

why is it called northern soul because it comes out of the north?... i dont get it.... and whats the difference between northern and sweet soul?

i have heard many groups like bar-kays called sweet or northern soul.
what about Marvin Gaye,Booker T,Johnny Taylor. evn these guys have been called this genre, i rember them as a kid growing up being soul/R&B(oldies).

i know i can google the history but i'm curious to know another opinion,if you guys have any lets here them, i guess when you run a record store and people ask for things like this it just makes me wonder how people put there own take on things,
was this some that shadow/chemist and these other cats made up while diggin for new breaks.?

well you would know better than i would. i always thought northern soul was a lable, guess not.

so was it the UK that started this genre then? all the music was made here inthe USA,

yeah ui had seen this but didnt read it it's basicly what i figured,
ten whats the BIG deal why is it so expensive some records sell up to 600 bucks and thats just a 45
i got tis customer that comes in to my store and ask for this and i show him some music of these artist bt he tells me that he's lookin for stuff in the price range of 600 and up and on 45.
and i have checked on ebay and found that most th northern soul stuff is coming out of the UK why is that? does that mean that the US doesnt have any of that music here? if so why? it was made here in the states.

this is why i ask for your opininons not agoogle search, i did that already.

jus my two cents i've really been researching this stuff lately but n. soul was made here in the states but uk guys really took a liking to it. They come to the states with suitcases full of money and buy whole warehouse and old record store stock. The shop a lot in the windy city area. And $600 dollars is small change for a northern record I have a partner that has sold numerous northern pieces on e-bay for a coupla stacks. there are some cats in chi-town that sold a northern piece for $33,000. I have tons a n. soul been trying to get familiar with e-bay so i can dump some of this stuff. Just uploading the stuff sucks. I have a lot of pieces that get upwards of a hundred bucks. It's not my flavor so i'm game to sell. I had one guy explain to me that it is distinguished by the sound a kinda up beat danceable sound. My personal favorites are taunting love by frankie newsom and a jam by marvin smith produced by c. mayfield. i have multiple copies of both and they both get nice doe from collectors. what's strange about n. soul is that it was mostly put out on small obscure labels 60's early 70's. it's definately where the money is if you are into selling records. when you bcan get a white man to come to the hood with a bunch a money it's definately a profit to be made. p.s. chi-town had the biggest n. soul labels back in the day. literally hundreds of small record labels in chicago during that time

theres some good clips of people dancing to northern soul in the 70s and others featuring collectors of the genre on youtube. the prices people pay for these 45s are a bit ridiculous. i'm not really big on northern soul, but i did come across this in a large lot...ended up paying about 10 cents for it...

that's a nice piece i haven't found one that big yet, found a radio station copy of the seven souls "i still love you" probably get about 4-8 hundred for it. but considering i only paid about 5 bucks for a whole crate that's cool. you pretty good with e-bay

So it's only 45's of these bands that are worth the doe? How about the full albums are they worth anything?

thats what i want to know ........ yeah i feel this is ridiculous . but just as all american music when it goes over to the UK why is it worth more? like our oldschool hiphop there's records that go for bannk, then these NOrthern soul 45's man .
i went to a record show this weekend this guy had a bok shoe box full of northern soul records all out of the covers on obscure labels ,i pulled out about 10 that i wanted he tells me 25 bucks i was like what? so i looked some more found some LP's he had a sun radisco 3000 for 300 bucks and the others he had were like 60 and up. i only had 80 bucks i was there at the last min thinking i was goin to get a deal which i did, but still i think i bought like 13-15 records off this cat for 30 bucks but these northern soul records he showed me the one that were worth some money he said, it's hard to believe cause they sound beat to shi+, but i cleaned them and they sound allright .

but whats the fasicnation with these. they are just soul music that was out of chi and detroit in the 60's to early 70's. may be what it is ...is that this are cats that no one know about in the 60's and they had the sound of today,just the fact fact that they were all black artist they were over looked in that time due to racism.

they funny thing is that i heard some spanish northern soul last week at the dig dug show this dude was spining this stuff and thru down this spainsh track with this chick singing and it was dope the beats is the hole thing to this music i agree the beats and the basslines,

F_CKyaSTYL man if you got this stuff you prolly goin to make a killing off of it, i would buy some but i dont see spending 100 for a 45 a few bucks maybe but shoot man make your money.

im not sure if just the label makes it northern soul , but i just got a main inggredient record that sounds just loike northern soul and this is on RCA

Northern soul is HIGHLY collected. I went to record show here in Hertford few months back and there was a guy who specialised in it, The cheapest ones he had were going for 35$ a piece. And the ones not in boxes (hanging up) were over 1000$. Same with funk 45's really. Whenevr I find people selling 45's in the newspaper or elsewhere northern soul and funk are first things I look for. With so many small labels releasing the stuff in short period of time its really hard to KNOW what actually is northernsoul and what isnt.

i picked up a James brown 45 getup,getin to it, get involved for 5 bucks
an OG copy .to me that's worth more then any of the northern soul records i picked up from this dealer.i mean i dont care about price on records if it's something i want , then I'll pay it but , what gets me is that this is ridiculous that prices for some of these, are they really that scares that there worth that much?
