for all u turntable owners..got a ques

hey guys! I've got a question: I use a Numark TT 1650 turntable (know it's not anywhere near good, but it's what I can afford) and, since I've got it, there's been something really annoying about it.my records don't play or sound the way they're suposed to, and I'm starting to think there's something wrong whit it.when I play a record continuously it makes this weird dragging sound, every now and then, like woooOOOOOOmmmm. almost if as the plate isn't spinning well, like it has some obstruction.it "ondulates" sound.also when it's working with no record on, if u listen closely, u can hear something scraping regularly inside the turntable,one time per rotation.could it be that my cartdige is messed up, or that my records are just that old and dusty??? or do I have a real equipment problem???

sounds like your records are warped i could b wrong but thas what it sounds like.

try a 45(7") then let me know if it does it again ,
is this a portable TT? it sounds like it. not sure what the numark 1650 is but thats what you have to deal with a portable

nah man it's not portable. it's not belt driven or anything, got a direct drive motor, so it shouldn't be doing this with a 45 it doesn't happen that much..but still, what's this motor stuck sound I keep hearing?

You were right ther first time it is your plate.I havent had turntables in a while ,I have cd turntables but I remember my tables doing that.I think i just took the plate off and put it back on .Im not sure if that is what I did but it is your plate.

if it's making a scraping noise when you don't have a record on, that would lead me to believe it's the turntable. lift the platter and check it out.

done that. nothing, the scraping sounds like it's coming from inside the turntable... i would send it on warranty, but the store is german.......

Make sure Your Table IS Leveled I.E. Sittin on an even DESK...........

and Make Sure you Check the Four Feet on the Turntable.............

Yeah man i got a set of 1650s as well, mine are silent, but the right deck has the habit of playing at normal speed for a while then just slowing down and playing at about half speed... i thought maybe that could be the grounding on the cords? (if anyone has any ideas). If i switch the table off and on again, the problem goes for a little while then comes back.

Man, as you said, these aren't expensive decks... i just assumed they would break pretty quick so i dunno... sounds like numarks base models leave a bit to be desired.

take the platter off and see if theres some garbage in there or something , maybe just by taking the platter off it may settle something down and give you a few more good hours of enjoyment


doo these have a bunch of screws like the 1200's? if not try to open it up and look in side .
